In the world of fashion and accessories, traditional rules are continually being challenged, especially when it comes to the art of mixing metals in jewelry. The once steadfast rule of sticking to one metal per outfit has been replaced by a more liberated approach, encouraging personal style and creativity.
Whether it's the subtle blend of silver and steel jewelry or the more contrasting blend of gold and silver, the possibilities are endless. We will explore the ins and outs of mixing metals in jewelry, offering tips on how to create a stylish and cohesive look that reflects your unique aesthetic.
The question "can you mix silver and gold jewelry?" has been a topic of debate for many years. However, the modern fashion landscape answers with a resounding “yes!” Mixing silver and gold jewelry is not just acceptable; it's a current trend that adds depth and dimension to your ensemble.
The interplay of gold's warmth and silver's cool sheen offers a visually appealing contrast that enhances the overall richness and texture of an outfit. This harmonious blend of metals reflects a sophisticated and eclectic style, embracing versatility and breaking free from traditional ‘jewelry rules’.
The mixing silver and gold jewelry trend can be showcased by wearing silver and gold bracelets together, or mixing gold and silver necklaces of different lengths around the neck. Zink Metals' XOXO necklace showcases the beauty of gold and silver coming together, but in a single versatile statement piece that complements a wide range of outfits. The wearability options for this trend are utterly limitless.
Silver has long been cherished for its lustrous finish and timeless appeal, while steel is praised for its strength and modern vibe. When these two metals are combined in a single look, the result is a harmonious blend that offers the best of both worlds. The cool tones of silver complement the sleek, contemporary feel of steel, creating adornments that are both eye-catching and subtly elegant.
The trend of mixing steel and silver jewelry represents a blend of industrial resilience and classic elegance, appealing to a modern aesthetic that values innovation and durability. This trend can be rocked by wearing separate silver and steel pieces or wearing a combined material piece.
When combined into one jewelry piece, these two materials together create pieces that are not only unique in design but also low maintenance and versatile, suitable for everyday wear and a range of activities without the fear of damage.
When it comes to wearing separate silver and steel jewelry together, the key is to embrace the subtle contrast and complementary nature of these two metals. For a harmonious blend, consider pairing a sleek stainless steel watch with a delicate silver bracelet or bangle. This combination works well because both metals share a similar cool-toned luster, allowing them to seamlessly integrate without overpowering each other.
Alternatively, layering a chunky steel necklace with a finer, intricate silver pendant necklace can create a dynamic and textured look, perfect for adding interest to a simple outfit. The trick is to balance the boldness of steel with the refined elegance of silver, achieving a look that's sophisticated yet effortlessly cohesive.
Wearing mixed steel and silver jewelry makes a bold statement of individuality and forward-thinking fashion, reflecting a preference for sustainable, durable, and versatile pieces that transcend seasonal trends. It symbolizes a balance between strength and beauty, catering to those who appreciate the harmony of contrasts and the expression of nuanced personality through their accessories. Zink Metals is known for our silver and steel jewelry creations.
One of the most elegant and contemporary combinations seen in today's jewelry is the pairing of rose gold with platinum. Rose gold, with its warm, pinkish hue, brings a soft, romantic allure to jewelry pieces, while platinum offers a stark contrast with its bright white sheen and unmatched durability. This mix not only offers a visual feast, but also combines the luxurious appeal of platinum with the trendy and vintage vibe of rose gold.
The interplay between copper and sterling silver not only offers visual appeal but also adds a tactile dimension to jewelry, inviting the wearer to experience the distinct textures and temperatures of each metal. As these pieces age, they tell a story through their changing texture and sheen, becoming personalized artifacts of the wearer's journey. T
Tungsten, known for its incredible toughness and sleek, gunmetal finish, when combined with rose gold, creates an intriguing mix of modern masculinity and subtle femininity. This combination is becoming increasingly popular in men's jewelry, especially in rings, where the durability of tungsten meets the aesthetic appeal of rose gold accents.
The variety of ways to mix metals in jewelry is as vast as the different fashion styles to adorn them with. We highlight here some key ways to step into this trend with thoughtfulness, to help you mix and match key pieces in your collection to highlight their best characteristics and elevate your style to an entirely different level.
Choose a standout piece that combines two metals, like Zink Metal’s Pierced Circle Earrings. Made of steel and sterling silver, and garnished with beautiful round garnets, they will serve as the focal point of your look. These will naturally tie in other jewelry pieces of different metals.
Silver and steel jewelry blend seamlessly due to their similar hues. Wearing silver and steel bracelets together can create a subtle yet sophisticated look, perfect for both casual and formal settings.
Layering silver and gold necklaces is a chic way to mix metals. Start with shorter necklaces in one metal and gradually add longer pieces in another metal to create a cascading effect.
When mixing gold and silver, look for pieces that share a common design element, such as a similar pattern or motif. This will help unify the look and make the combination appear intentional.
When mixing metals jewelry, consider the colors of your outfit. Cooler tones tend to complement silver steel jewelry, while warmer hues can enhance the richness of gold and silver pieces.
Jewelry that features both silver and gold, such as silver and gold bracelets, can act as a bridge that brings your mixed metal ensemble together.
Mixing different textures can add depth to your look. A smooth gold bangle paired with a textured silver ring can create an interesting visual contrast.
Ultimately, the most important aspect of mixing metals is that it reflects your personal style. Don't be afraid to experiment and find combinations that resonate with you.
As we’ve explored, the question "can you mix metals jewelry?" is met with an enthusiastic affirmation in today's fashion world. Whether it's combining silver and gold bracelets, layering silver and gold necklaces, or showcasing the elegance of silver and steel jewelry, the key lies in balance, cohesion, and personal expression.
By embracing the tips outlined above, you can confidently mix metals in your jewelry, creating looks that are uniquely yours and effortlessly stylish. Remember, the rules of fashion are there to guide, not dictate — so go ahead and mix it up.
Jewelry, beyond its ornamental charm, is an embodiment of artistry and craftsmanship. In the world of unique jewelry, diverse materials and techniques converge to create pieces that transcend the ordinary.
This exploration delves into different varieties of unique jewelry created through historical artisanal techniques as well as new, innovative techniques utilizing modern technology. Whatever technique is used, the goal is to create stand-out unique jewelry designs that are as unique as the person wearing it.
Handmade hammered metal-designed jewelry stands as a testament to the enduring allure of artisan craftsmanship. This unique style involves a meticulous process where skilled artisans forge and shape metal, infusing each piece with character and individuality. The hammering technique not only imparts a distinct texture but also creates a play of light and shadow, adding depth and dimension to the finished product.
Handmade hammered metal-designed jewelry spans a wide range of pieces, from statement necklaces and bold cuffs to delicate earrings and stacking rings. Zink Metals’ Hammered Stacking Rings are a perfect example of this craft. These unique rings are made of sterling silver and have a hand-hammered edge for the perfect amount of sparkle.
The versatility of this technique allows for the creation of jewelry that suits various styles and occasions. Whether you prefer a minimalist hammered silver pendant for everyday wear or a dramatic gold hammered cuff to make a bold statement, the options are as diverse as the artisans who craft them.
Zink Metals’ broken silver technique is a unique jewelry creation and captivating method that embraces imperfection to create unique jewelry designs. This approach involves intentionally damaging or breaking the silver surface and then skillfully repairing it. The result is an intricate interplay of texture and character that transforms each piece into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
Zink Metals’ Broken Silver Collection features the Broken Bangle Bracelet with Cubic Zirconias, as well as several unique necklaces including the Curved Corner necklace, sets of unique statement earrings, and three different unique rings. Since each piece is handmade, each piece is its own unique piece of art.
As exemplified in the previously mentioned silver techniques, unique silver jewelry has emerged as a cornerstone in modern jewelry design, offering a versatile and dynamic medium for artisans to craft unique and captivating pieces. Its malleability allows for intricate detailing and the creation of diverse textures, making it a favorite among contemporary jewelry designers.
Sterling silver's affordability makes it accessible to a broader audience without compromising on the allure of distinctive craftsmanship. While sterling silver is not a unique material by itself, combining multiple materials in a single piece, such as steel, gemstones, and sterling silver jewelry, create a distinctive look. And as a malleable metal, various jewelry making techniques can be applied to produce one-of-a-kind pieces, including sculpting, chiseling, casting, fusing, and more.
Russian filigree, rooted in centuries of tradition, is a jewelry-making technique that involves the intricate weaving of delicate metal wires to form lacy, openwork, unique jewelry designs. Typically applied to both silver and gold, this technique requires meticulous skill and patience. Russian filigree showcases the seamless integration of elegance and precision, making it a timeless choice for those who appreciate the artistry of unique jewelry.
Zink Metals creates one-of-a-kind beauty pieces using the Russian filigree technique. The Large Circle Filigree Necklace is one example of how this technique can create such beautiful unique jewelry. This is one of many Zink Metals’ unique necklaces that feature a sterling silver filigree. They can be dressed up or down, but are certain to draw attention in any room. Our Large Circle Filigree Earrings are unique earrings that are also made of delicate fine silver and are statement pieces sure to draw attention!
Beyond specific materials, innovative jewelry making techniques continually push the boundaries of what is possible. Advancements in technology, such as 3D printing and laser cutting, enable artisans to explore new dimensions in design.
From intricately patterned gold rings to geometric steel pendants, these techniques open avenues for unparalleled creativity to create unique necklaces, unique earrings and more. Embracing technology alongside traditional craftsmanship allows for the production of truly unique jewelry pieces that captivate and inspire.
As we navigate this era of technological innovation, artisans are embracing these tools not as replacements for traditional craftsmanship but as extensions of their creative toolkit. The synergy between age-old jewelry techniques and cutting-edge technology used in new jewelry techniques results in a harmonious balance, where the authenticity of handcrafted elements meets the precision and efficiency of modern methods.
The result is a collection of truly unique jewelry pieces that not only captivate and inspire but also embody the evolution of an ancient art form into a contemporary masterpiece. The journey into the future of jewelry-making is an exploration of limitless possibilities, where the marriage of tradition and technology creates an ever-expanding canvas for artistic expression.
Whether a chain is composed of a single material or is composed of links of different materials, these unique chains not only serve as a testament to the artisan's skill but creates a storytelling element, embodying the harmonious interplay of individuality and craftsmanship.
Permanent jewelry is not just an accessory; it is a tangible representation of the wearer's resilience, uniqueness, and the beauty that arises from embracing the permanence of one's own story in the evolving tapestry of life. Permanent jewelry sessions are often held to celebrate a specific life event with special people in a person’s life and the jewelry serves as a reminder of that event and those people on a daily basis.
Whether a unique jewelry piece is created through an ancient artisan craft or through a newer innovative jewelry technique, the importance is on your happiness with the final piece of unique jewelry. Does it make you feel as if you stand out in a crowd? Does it highlight the features of your body you were looking to highlight? Was it artfully created in a manner that will last? Additionally, steel is versatile and adaptable, reflecting the necessity for flexibility and compromise in a successful long-term partnership. Giving steel as the 11th anniversary gift becomes an opportunity for couples to celebrate the malleability and strength of their relationship, acknowledging that it's the combination of toughness and adaptability that has allowed their marriage to stand firm amid the changes and challenges they've encountered together. Let’s now delve into the significant milestone anniversaries, each carrying a special meaning. These landmark anniversaries are cause for great celebrations when they are reached and are the perfect chance to show her your love with an anniversary jewelry gift that was chosen for that special year.
The tradition of silver for the 25th anniversary gift is deeply rooted in symbolism and reflects the significant milestone of a quarter-century of marriage. Silver, known for its lustrous shine and timeless elegance, is chosen to honor the enduring beauty of a relationship that has stood the test of time.
The precious metal symbolizes purity, clarity, and the radiance of enduring love. Just as fine silver stands as the purest and whitest among precious metals, couples celebrating their 25th anniversary are encouraged to reflect on the purity of their commitment and the enduring glow of their shared journey.
In addition to its symbolic value, silver anniversary gifts also hold practical significance. Historically, silver has been associated with wealth and prosperity, linking it to the abundance of experiences and growth that a couple accumulates over 25 years of marriage. The choice of silver as the 25th anniversary gift is a celebration of the richness and depth that a quarter-century of shared memories, challenges, and triumphs brings to a marriage. Silver anniversary gifts become a tangible representation of the couple's enduring love, shining brightly as they continue their journey together.
Zink Metals features silver as a main material in many of its jewelry pieces, but it takes center stage in our special Broken Silver Collection. In this special collection, necklaces, earrings and rings all are distinctive pieces of unique art created by damaging silver through heating. This creates a broken or “rough” silver look, perfect for the spouse who wants to stand out with their jewelry.
The 50th wedding anniversary is commonly known as the golden anniversary, and as such, gold jewelry is a popular and traditional gift for this milestone celebration. Gold as an anniversary gift symbolizes the enduring strength, wealth, and value of a marriage that has spanned five decades. Couples often exchange gold jewelry, such as rings, necklaces, bracelets, or watches, to mark this significant achievement and to honor the long-lasting commitment they have shared.
The choice of gold for 50th anniversary gifts reflects the precious and lasting nature of the relationship, much like gold's timeless and valuable qualities. Gold anniversary gifts also serve as a symbol of the couple's enduring love, prosperity, and the golden memories created throughout their 50 years of marriage. While gold is the traditional choice for a 50th anniversary gift, some couples may also opt for personalized and sentimental jewelry pieces that hold special meaning for their unique journey together.
Commemorating wedding anniversaries with the gift of jewelry is a timeless and meaningful tradition that beautifully encapsulates the depth of love and dedication shared between partners. Each precious gem or metal chosen for a specific anniversary carries its own symbolism, reflecting the unique qualities and experiences of the marriage.
From the enduring strength of diamonds to the adaptability of steel and the pure radiance of silver, these jewelry gifts become tangible expressions of commitment, resilience, and enduring love. The act of selecting and exchanging anniversary jewelry gift ideas not only marks the passing of time but also serves as a heartfelt reminder of the shared journey, the growth as a couple, and the continued promise to build a future together.
In these gleaming tokens, couples find a language of love that transcends words — a language spoken through the brilliance of gemstones and the enduring glow of precious metals, creating a tradition that celebrates not just the years passed but the enduring beauty of a lifelong partnership.

Throughout history, Navajo jewelry has held significant importance in the cultural heritage of the Navajo people. Wearing a Navajo necklace, bracelet, or earrings traditionally conveyed a person's cultural identity, status, or wealth. In contemporary times, Navajo jewelry enjoys widespread popularity, captivating both indigenous and non-indigenous individuals. These pieces seamlessly blend elements of fashion, historical significance, legend, religion, and culture, transforming each creation into a captivating work of art.
The Navajo Nation is renowned for its distinctive silver and turquoise jewelry. Across history, Navajo communities have held turquoise in high esteem as a crucial element in religious and spiritual practices. According to certain legends, the skies would open up and bring rain after prolonged periods of drought. The tears of the people were said to fall to the Earth, giving rise to turquoise stones. Turquoise is believed to possess a spiritual link to rain in these cultural narratives.
A significant portion of traditional Navajo jewelry craftsmanship involves incorporating robust stones into sterling silver bezels. While turquoise commonly takes center stage as the featured gem, Navajo artisans exhibit versatility by incorporating spiny oyster shell, coral, amber, and various other natural gemstones into their exquisite designs. Shell and turquoise are often used together. Both allude to water, one based on origin and the other on color, with the pairing intensifying the water symbolism.
Additionally, traditional Navajo jewelry craftsmen skillfully produce uncomplicated sterling silver pieces devoid of gemstones, employing techniques such as hand-stamping, sand casting, and overlay to create unique and timeless pieces.
Prior to Spain invading Mexico, also-called the “pre-Columbian times), Mexican civilizations engaged in the mining and trading of silver, utilizing this precious metal to craft elaborate and detailed jewelry. These intricately designed traditional Mexican jewelry items were often offered as tributes to the gods.
The pre-Columbian civilizations held profound respect for the natural world, seamlessly incorporating this reverence into their jewelry craftsmanship. Jaguars, flowers, fish, trees, and an array of symbols were jewelry inspiration and were intricately woven into their adornments, each carrying special meanings such as power, wisdom, or independence. It was believed that wearing these adorned pieces could imbue the wearer's life with the qualities represented by the chosen symbols.
Upon the arrival of the Spanish in Mexico, they were quick to appreciate the beauty of the intricate and imaginative jewelry, recognizing the production potential due to the abundance of silver in the country. Subsequently, Spanish designers blended silver with gemstones commonly favored in Europe to craft hybrid designs of traditional Mexican jewelry. Pearls, Turtle shells and coloured glass were widely used.
During the Spanish settlement era, ornate earring designs enjoyed popularity in mainland Europe, influencing and persisting as a prevalent style in Mexican jewelry. Additionally, the Spanish introduced novel techniques to Mexico, incorporating filigree and repoussé. They also adopted the practice of encrusting jewelry with smaller gemstones, ushering in fresh design elements to the traditional Mexican jewelry scene.
In India, rulers utilized traditional Indian jewelry to pay homage to religion and the metaphysical, while also expressing social significance. Traditional Indian jewelry items were intricately crafted to honor and celebrate deities from both the Muslim and Hindu traditions, including Allah, Vishnu, Krishna, and Shiva, and to this day are a centerpiece to traditional Indian ceremonies.
In India, jewelry holds not just traditional and aesthetic significance but is also viewed as a form of financial security during times of crisis. A woman's collection of jewelry is indicative of her status and contributes to the wealth associated with her name. Traditional Indian jewelry has been characterized by substantial, voluminous gold pieces. As time has progressed, however, lighter-weight contemporary jewelry has become increasingly popular.
Indian women's jewelry has never been confined to a specific type of stone but has consistently showcased a diverse range. Traditional Indian jewelry can be crafted from handmade beads as well as an array of precious and semi-precious stones such as emeralds, pearls, diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and more. The assortment of jewelry produced in India serves not only aesthetic preferences, but also fulfills religious requirements, extending to the adornment of deity statues and ceremonial animals like elephants, cows, and horses.
Before Europeans reached the Hawaiian Islands, Hawaiians embellished themselves with jewelry crafted from locally sourced materials. These materials encompassed shells, bones, feathers, and a variety of plant fibers. Traditional Hawaiian jewelry served dual roles, acting as both a decorative adornment and a symbolic representation, frequently signifying the wearer's social status, rank, or connection to the spiritual realm.
When European and American explorers, traders, and missionaries began arriving in Hawaii, this marked the beginning of significant cultural exchanges between the Hawaiians and the Western world, which also included cultural jewelry. In turn these interactions introduced new materials, techniques, and designs that influenced the development of traditional Hawaiian jewelry. Hawaiian jewelers adopted and integrated Victorian-era jewelry crafting styles into their jewelry work including intricate metalwork, filigree, and floral motifs.
Traditional Hawaiian jewelry is seen as cherished heirloom pieces, passed down for generations in families at births, weddings and graduations. Often pieces are adorned with family monograms. Today’s traditional Hawaiian jewelry still incorporates traditional motifs, including the plumeria flower, sea turtles, waves, and fish hooks. These motifs are now usually crafted from materials such as gold, silver, pearls, and gemstones. Popular Hawaiin jewelry choices include engraved bracelets, pendants, rings, and earrings, often personalized with names or meaningful phrases.
We can’t discuss traditional Japanese jewelry without talking about Shibuichi Jewelry. What is Shibuichi?
In its traditional form, a Shibuichi alloy is crafted with one part silver and three parts copper, with the term "Shibuichi" itself translating to "one-quarter." The exact proportions may vary slightly based on the artist's preferences for colors. Generally, the Shibuichi blend used in traditional Japanese jewelry results in a spectrum of gray tones and occasionally exhibits hues of blue and green.
Shibuichi production began in the 18th century. Since unadorned kimonos were the typical garment worn by both men and women in Japan, adornment happened for the Japanese in useful ways. It was used to adorn samurai swords, sword guards and knife handles, as well as hair clips, combs and sticks that incorporated gemstones like agate, coral and ivory.
Later on, a low-gold-content alloy called Shakudo began to be used in traditional Japanese jewelry to design earrings and pendants using an esoteric technique. Cultured pearls first came about in Japan thanks to a man named Kokichi Mimoto, who became the world’s foremost producer of fine cultured pearls.
As Westernization happened in Japan, traditional Japanese jewelry became more of a status symbol for families, with affluent families sporting high-priced jewelry regularly. Presently, Japan's jewelry market ranks as the second-largest globally, following only the United States. Additionally, Japan holds the position as the world's second-largest consumer of platinum and stands in second place worldwide in terms of diamond jewelry sales.
Throughout history, Chinese jewelry has been renowned for its meticulous craftsmanship and intricate designs. Traditional Chinese jewelry-making involves a harmonious blend of artistic expression, cultural symbolism, and technical expertise, resulting in pieces that serve as both embellishments and reflections of centuries of skilled craftsmanship. These time-honored techniques encompass a diverse range of skills and methods that have been handed down through generations.
Of all the many materials have been used to make traditional Chinese jewelry through the years, including gold, silver, copper, pearl, turquoise, coral, crystal, glass, lacquer, wood, clay, porcelain, and fabric, jade is the most special material of all for the Chinese people. In ancient Chinese culture, jade was considered a perfect representative of strength, benevolence, modesty, elegance, and purity.
Due to its legendary origins and sacred significance, traditional Chinese jewelry including jade played a crucial role in the burial customs of royalty and nobility. In ancient China, there was a belief that jade had the power to safeguard the body from decay and ward off malevolent forces. It was thought that jade could assist the departed in ascending to heaven or experiencing rebirth in the future.
The Shang and Zhou Dynasties ushered in bronze, gold and silver threading techniques. The Shang Dynasty also brought with it filigree inlay techniques where jewelry artisans would filigree gold or silver threads into certain formations, then inlay using beautiful decorations, such as gems, crystals, jade, or pearl.
The XOXO necklace from Zink Metals features a similar inlay technique of gold to silver called Keum-boo, which originated in Korea but eventually made its way to China as well as Japan, Italy and Greece.
Zink Metals also features filigree inlay in some of its pieces but utilizes a specific learned Russian technique in its creation. The result is still a beautiful selection of intricate metalwork pieces
Contemporary Chinese jewelry designs showcase a captivating fusion of traditional aesthetics and modern innovation. Designers often blend cultural motifs with cutting-edge techniques, resulting in pieces that seamlessly bridge the past and present. While some jewelry may draw inspiration from ancient Chinese symbols and craftsmanship, others feature sleek, minimalist designs that reflect a more modern sensibility. Materials range from traditional choices like jade and gold to innovative combinations of metals and gemstones. Overall, contemporary Chinese jewelry designs exemplify a dynamic and diverse expression of cultural heritage within a contemporary context.
The evolution of jewelry design across the globe stands as a testament to the interconnectedness of cultures and the profound impact of local materials and cultural aesthetics. From the gleaming gold of ancient civilizations to the vibrant hues of gemstones, each region's distinctive offerings have shaped the jewelry worn by its people.
As travel and trade expanded, a beautiful tapestry of diverse influences emerged. These have led to the dynamic and eclectic array of jewelry designs we witness today, including new designs such as our new folded steel necklaces and earrings inspired by a fold forming technique. This journey through time and space illustrates how the fusion of materials, techniques, and cultural aesthetics has not only adorned individuals but also woven a global narrative of beauty and craftsmanship.re
]]>You’ve taken the care to choose the perfect jewelry pieces that match your individual style, and have invested your hard-earned money in good pieces that will last a long time. Now the questions arise:, “How to organize and store jewelry to protect it from tarnish, scratches, and in the case of steel jewelry, rust?” and “What are the best ways to store jewelry?” We take jewelry care seriously, and thus have put together a list of jewelry storage ideas that will ensure your pieces maintain their luster and sparkle for a long time to come.
Before we get to individual storage ideas, however, we want to discuss some general jewelry care and best practices on how to store jewelry to prolong the life of it. Zink Metals provides jewelry care recommendations with each piece to help your jewelry last.
Each Zink Metals jewelry piece comes in a special resealable plastic bag that we recommend you keep and store your jewelry in when not being worn. This plastic bag protects the jewelry from elements like sun, air and water. We recommend you place those storage bags inside one of the below listed jewelry storage solutions for an extra layer of protection. Not to mention that these storage solutions help neatly arrange your collection to make your favorite pieces easy to find the next time you want to adorn yourself in beauty.
When deciding how to organize your jewelry, consider a hanging jewelry keeper. These serve as both an easy-to-use and easy-for-travel jewelry storage idea. They are designed to prevent scratching by providing individual compartments for each piece, ensuring that delicate surfaces remain free from abrasions. They are particularly adept at keeping together earring sets, offering zippered compartments that prevent pairs from becoming separated.
Moreover, hanging jewelry keepers contribute to the longevity of silver jewelry by thwarting tarnishing, as they often incorporate anti-tarnish materials in their compartments. Hanging jewelry keepers are therefore one of the best ways to store silver jewelry. In addition to safeguarding precious metals like silver, these organizers act as moisture barriers with their plastic materials, protecting steel jewelry from potential corrosion. By offering a systematic and protective storage solution, hanging jewelry keepers not only allow an easy visual search of your accessories but also contribute to their overall durability and longevity.
Tiered jewelry organizers offer a sophisticated and practical solution for how to organize jewelry and keep it well-protected. These organizers feature multiple tiers with compartments, effectively preventing scratching and tangling by providing individualized spaces for each piece. They go the extra mile by incorporating lids or side compartments specially designed for hanging necklaces, ensuring that they remain separated and free from entanglement. The compartments themselves are often lined with anti-tarnish soft material, acting as a gentle shield against both scratching and tarnishing for a variety of jewelry pieces.
Sets of earrings find a secure home together in dedicated compartments, while rings can be strategically placed between soft foam spaces that hold them upright. With their tiered structure, these organizers accommodate entire jewelry collections. Plus, they come in various materials such as wood, plastic, or steel, offering style and durability for one of the best ways to store jewelry like earrings and rings.
Individually flapped jewelry pouches represent an ingenious jewelry storage idea for organization and of your precious adornments. Crafted from anti-tarnish materials, these pouches act as protective shields, safeguarding jewelry from the damaging effects of tarnishing while preserving their lustrous appeal. Along with a sealed plastic bag, they are one of the best ways to store jewelry for travel or to keep each piece safe from scratches.
Beyond tarnish prevention, these pouches create a moisture and sun-resistant barrier, shielding jewelry from environmental factors that may compromise their integrity. Notably, pouches designed for earrings go the extra mile by featuring internal separators, ensuring that earring sets can be stored together without any risk of them touching or scratching each other. This thoughtful design element not only preserves the pristine condition of each earring but also adds an extra layer of sophistication to the overall organization of your jewelry collection.
With individually flapped jewelry pouches, the art of preserving and presenting your jewelry becomes a seamless and stylish endeavor. Jewelry collectors can utilize these pouches in conjunction with a number of other storage options in this list.
Anti-tarnish strips emerge as discreet yet powerful guardians of your cherished jewelry pieces, and should be considered best practices for storing jewelry. These strips, often infused with substances like activated carbon or other corrosion inhibitors, serve as vigilant protectors against tarnishing. The beauty of these strips lies in their simplicity; tucking one into each plastic bag alongside your jewelry allows them to absorb airborne pollutants, creating a barrier that shields your precious metals from environmental threats.
Moreover, they also seamlessly integrate into the compartments of jewelry trays or boxes, offering an additional layer of protection against tarnish. Placing them strategically within separate sections ensures that each piece remains shielded from potential discoloration caused by exposure to the elements. In their unassuming presence, anti-tarnish strips become essential allies in the ongoing quest to preserve the brilliance and longevity of your jewelry collection.
Jewelry trays stand as an exceptional choice for the storage of high-end jewelry collections, seamlessly combining practicality with elegance. Designed to fit neatly inside dresser drawers, these trays provide a systematic and accessible solution to organize a variety of precious pieces. Their modular nature allows for convenient stacking, enabling the customization of storage space to accommodate the size and scope of your collection.
One of the key advantages lies in the materials used, often featuring anti-tarnish properties that act as a protective barrier against environmental factors, a key factor in the best way to store silver jewelry. The interior configurations of these trays are thoughtfully designed, with segmented compartments for different types of jewelry, preventing tangling, scratching, and ensuring each piece has its designated space. With a blend of functionality and sophistication, jewelry trays offer a refined storage solution for those who value both organization and the pristine preservation of their high-end jewelry treasures.
Wall jewelry organizers offer both practicality and aesthetics, serving as a stylish solution in how to organize your jewelry. These organizers often feature hanging pegs that provide a dedicated space for necklaces and bracelets, preventing them from tangling and making selection a breeze. The inclusion of hooks specifically designed for pairs of earrings ensures that sets remain paired and easily accessible.
Beyond functionality, wall jewelry organizers add a decorative element to your space, turning your jewelry into a captivating display. By utilizing vertical wall space, these organizers not only declutter your dresser or vanity, but also transform your jewelry collection into a visually appealing focal point.
The benefits of wall jewelry organizers extend beyond their space-saving capabilities. They offer a systematic approach to organization, making it effortless to coordinate your accessories for any occasion. The strategic arrangement of hanging pegs and hooks allows for quick and easy access to your jewelry, eliminating the frustration of untangling necklaces or searching for matching earrings.
The vertical display adds a touch of sophistication to your room, turning your jewelry collection into an artful showcase. In essence, wall jewelry organizers blend functionality with aesthetics.
While wall jewelry organizers are great for displaying and easily accessing your jewelry, there is a downside. These types of jewelry organizers that are out in the open don’t protect your jewelry from dust, light and other environmental elements. So, it’s best to opt for an enclosed wall storage solution to safeguard your jewelry.
Jewelry roll bags emerge as a sleek and efficient solution for organizing and storing diverse jewelry collections with style and practicality. They also double as a convenient way to travel with some of your jewelry collection.
Crafted from soft and durable materials such as fabric or faux leather, these roll bags often feature designated compartments and pouches that cater to the varied needs of different jewelry pieces. The ingenious design allows for necklaces and bracelets to be fastened in a hanging fashion, preventing tangles and minimizing the risk of scratches or wear.
The interior of these bags is often lined with anti-tarnish materials, creating a protective environment that shields silver and gold jewelry from oxidation and discoloration. Earrings find their place in specially designed pockets or compartments, ensuring pairs are kept together without risk of scratching or misplacement.
The portability of jewelry roll bags makes them an ideal companion for travel as they can be easily tucked into the corner of a suitcase, and they offer a secure and organized way to transport a curated selection of jewelry while simultaneously preserving its luster and integrity.
Stand-up jewelry cabinets or armories are a luxurious and comprehensive solution for how to store jewelry, combining functionality with elegant design. These cabinets typically feature doors equipped with hooks and dedicated spaces for hanging necklaces, preventing them from becoming entangled. Bars are incorporated to elegantly display bracelets, while specific sections offer convenient storage for sets of earrings.
Rows of soft foam-lined slots provide a secure and organized space for rings, preventing scratches and ensuring easy access. Shelves within the cabinet allow for the addition of perfumes and lipsticks, transforming it into a centralized beauty and accessory station. Some models even boast a mirrored door, serving a dual purpose by providing a convenient reflection space and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal. With their thoughtful design and ample storage capacity, stand-up jewelry cabinets are a sophisticated and practical jewelry storage idea.
In the grand tapestry of our lives, jewelry often holds profound sentimental and intrinsic value. Ensuring the longevity of these treasures is not just an act of preservation; it's a commitment to passing down stories and memories to future generations. Regular professional cleaning and examinations are vital to maintaining the brilliance of gemstones and the structural integrity of settings.
Proper storage, whether in individual pouches, tiered organizers, or stand-up cabinets, prevents the heartache of tangled necklaces or lost stones. Just as we invest in these pieces, we must invest time in their care. It's a responsibility to honor the craftsmanship and sentimentality embedded in each item. By taking these steps, we not only preserve the beauty of our jewelry but also safeguard the legacy they carry, ensuring they remain timeless treasures for years to come.

Your hairstyle and choice of jewelry are powerful elements that can work in harmony to elevate your overall look. It’s important to know the right jewelry for your personality, as well as how to match your jewelry to occasions. The right pairing can enhance your style, highlight your facial features, and express your personality with finesse. Whether you're sporting a sleek bob, luscious curls, or an intricate updo, each hairstyle presents a unique canvas for your jewelry. In this blog, we'll explore the art of matching jewelry with specific hairstyles, offering guidance to help you make the most of these stunning combinations and make a lasting impression with your accessories.
When you’re sporting a short hairstyle like a cute pixie, blunt bob, or trendy shag variant, opting for face-framing jewelry, especially larger earrings, is the way to enhance your look. Artistic statement earrings like the Zink Metals Mod Silver Drop Earrings are the best earrings for short hair, as they frame the face.
Another fashionable jewelry choice for short hair is a good statement necklace that features a shorter chain and elegantantly rests higher on your neckline. With short hair, there's no risk of long locks obscuring your jewelry, so it's essential to choose pieces that not only make a statement but also gracefully emphasize your most striking feature – your face.
There’s nothing more beautiful than when long, flowy locks are allowed to fly free. When it comes to choosing earrings for long hair, or what necklaces to wear with lengthy tresses, well, that’s more of a tricky decision. Earrings for long hair should be bold enough to be seen, but something that won’t get stuck in the hair. Unique, statement studs are a good option, like our Circle Stud Earrings or the Angled Stud Earrings. Simple large closed hoop earrings are another good selection as far as earrings for long hair go.
For the best necklaces for long hair, choose a simple chain that grazes the collarbone or something with a long chain and pendant that keeps the chain flush against the body.
Half-up hairstyles tend to be more “professional” or more “dressy” for special occasions like weddings or proms. In this case, the jewelry should match the occasion as well as the hairstyle. If the half-up ‘do is for a business event, complement it with long, dangly earrings that are interesting, yet classy like the Zink Metals Black Diamond Shapes Earrings or the Steel Long Line Earrings. For a special occasion or date night, try something dangly but with more of a dramatic touch like these Broken Tourmaline Earrings.
Half-up hairstyles, with the way the hair is pulled up and away from the face and neck, also lend themselves to perfectly showcase a showstopping necklace. The intricacies of the Large Circle Filigree Necklace with its handcrafted artisan pendant that hangs right in the center of the upper chest would be a great selection for a half-up hairstyle. So would the eye-catching Vertical Green Uvarovite Garnet, with its perfect-length 18-inch sterling silver chain and uniquely textured colored stone.
Boho jewelry, often characterized by its earthy tones, natural materials, and intricate designs, complements the organic, unstructured feel of beachy waved hair perfectly. The Iron Oxide in Quartz Necklace falls right into the boho category with its earthy toned yellow oxide accent and its natural materials. The Broken Silver Dangle Earrings are also made of a natural material, and are designed with the intention to look natural with the “broken silver” manipulation. Additionally, these long earrings for women hit just under the earlobes, so that minimizes the risk of entanglement in the hair.
For those with curly hair, selecting the perfect earrings becomes an added consideration. Regardless of whether your curls are natural, styled with a curling iron, or the result of a retro perm, it's crucial to make thoughtful earring choices to prevent them from becoming entangled in your locks.
One great option is the stud earring. Now, you don’t have to go boring with your studs, but you still want to make sure they don’t utilize lots of intricate designs where curls can get trapped. The Broken Silver Studs are interesting visually, yet won’t trap any hair. Another great selection would be the previously mentioned Circle Stud Earrings, since they sit flush against the earlobes. Large or small closed hoops would also be a good choice. Curved surfaces are an important focus for those sporting curls.
You could forego earrings altogether and focus more on bracelets. Curly hair can be voluminous and striking on its own. Wearing bracelets allows you to experiment with layering jewelry on your wrists, creating a visually appealing look without overwhelming your hair. Layered bracelets can be stylish and expressive without competing with your curls.
With your hair pulled up away from your face and neck in a high ponytail or a fancy updo, that leaves your entire front open for adornment. But don’t go overboard! Choose a single statement piece — either a pair of bold drop earrings, OR a bold statement necklace. Never both! That’s overkill. People won’t know what to focus on if you wear both.
Zink Metals Links Earrings are statement pieces with their unusual rectangular shape. They are 1.75-inches long, are made of sterling silver and steel, and spin as they are worn. These are great earrings with a ponytail.Another eye-catching option would be the Angled Cascade Earrings that are 2 inches long and featured angled steel ovals looped together. They create a lot of movement when worn.
Drop-down earrings for shoulder-length hair are a perfect adornment as they gracefully occupy the space between your ears and shoulders. When you wear this medium-length hairstyle, you have the flexibility to select jewelry that resonates with your taste, be it a minimalist drop-down earring featuring a stunning ruby pendant or a pair of hoop earrings embellished with glistening diamonds. Take guidance from the occasion when choosing the simplicity or statement design of earrings for shoulder-length hair.
If longer earrings aren’t your style, a bold statement necklace pairs nicely with this hair length. Since medium-length hair typically falls between the shoulders and collarbone. A bold statement necklace can create a sense of equilibrium in your overall look, as it fills the space between your hair and neckline, ensuring that neither your hair nor the necklace dominates the visual focus.
Once you decide what style of jewelry you’d like to pair with your hairstyle, the next step is to make sure the color of the jewelry pairs well with the color tones in your hair. There are some general guidelines to follow when it comes to hair color categories and jewelry materials.
Blonde hair pairs beautifully with a wide variety of jewelry styles. Silver jewelry complements the cool tones in blonde hair, while pearls offer timeless elegance. Light-colored gemstones like aquamarine and amethyst provide a subtle pop of color, and rose gold adds the perfect touch of warmth.
For those with brunette hair, think about embracing warm-toned jewelry that enhances the rich hues in your hair. Earthy tones such as brown, orange, and yellow make excellent choices. The choice between gold and silver jewelry for brunette hair depends on personal style, skin tone, and the overall desired look.
Gold jewelry complements the warm undertones in brunette hair, enhancing the richness of dark brown or chestnut hair. On the other hand, silver jewelry provides a cool contrast, making brunette hair stand out, ideal for a more contemporary or edgy appearance, especially with lighter or ash brown shades. Skin tone is also a factor, with warm undertones favoring gold and cool-toned skin harmonizing with silver.
If you have red hair, it's best to steer clear of jewelry featuring red or orange undertones, as they may create a clash with your hair color. Instead, consider jewelry in colors that offer a striking contrast, such as green or blue.
Both gold and silver jewelry can complement red hair, but the choice between the two often depends on your personal preferences and the overall look you want to achieve. Gold jewelry can bring out the warm undertones in red hair, creating a harmonious and luxurious look, while silver jewelry offers a cool contrast to the warmth of red hair, resulting in a striking and modern appearance.
The specific shade of red in your hair and your individual style play a significant role in making the choice, and you can also mix and match both gold and silver jewelry to create a unique and balanced look that complements your red locks.
Selecting the best jewelry for black hair is a matter of personal style, skin tone, and the desired look. Silver jewelry creates a striking contrast with black hair, offering a modern and elegant touch, while gold jewelry adds warmth. Gemstones like emeralds, rubies, or sapphires can introduce a pop of color, and classic pearls provide timeless sophistication. Earrings like hoops or dangles frame the face beautifully and enhance black hair, and statement pieces, such as necklaces or chandelier earrings, can add dramatic flair.
Contrasting colors, like silver with colorful gemstones or gold with enamel accents, can also make a bold visual statement. Ultimately, the choice depends on your personal style and skin tone, so experiment and mix and match pieces to create a look that complements your black hair and expresses your unique style.
The art of selecting the right jewelry to complement your hairstyle is all about balance and personal expression. Your hairstyle provides a canvas for self-expression, and the jewelry you choose is a piece of the artwork. Pay attention to the colors, tones, and styles that work well with your hair, but don't be afraid to experiment and have fun. Whether you have long beachy waves, curly locks, a chic bob, or any other hairstyle, remember that the most important aspect of choosing jewelry is to feel confident. Let your individuality shine through, and make every accessory a reflection of your unique style.
So, whether it's a statement necklace, delicate earrings, or layered bracelets, embrace the wonderful world of jewelry to complete your look, and always wear it with confidence. Your style journey is all about celebrating your own beauty, one accessory at a time. Browse through Zink Metals’ jewelry to see which accessories best match your personal style.

Jewelry styles possess a remarkable capacity to elevate your sense of fashion and make a lasting impact. It's all about expressing your individuality and conveying your story through exquisite pieces, rather than just embellishing. Whether you opt for a bohemian flair, a touch of minimalist elegance, or bold statement pieces, it's crucial to find the jewelry that mirrors your personal style. This empowers you to distinguish yourself from the masses, creating a distinctive and unforgettable presence. Crafting your personal jewelry style goes beyond following fleeting fashion fads; it involves finding harmony between self-expression and craftsmanship.
Allocate time to explore different styles of jewelry to uncover your preferences. Do minimalist designs, vintage style jewelry, or bold, contemporary looks resonate with your taste? Are you drawn to more boho-style jewelry, or is gothic style jewelry more your thing? Do you prefer jewelry you never take off, or is your taste to change your earrings every day?
While it remains essential to preserve your personal style, staying attuned to in-style jewelry trends can introduce you to innovative patterns and combinations that might not have crossed your mind before. By paying attention to popular jewelry styles, or particular ways of wearing jewelry that you like, you can ignite your creativity and adapt the trends to suit your unique preferences. Embrace the blend of your distinctive style with contemporary influences for a truly personalized expression. Investigate how to mix and match jewelry styles to land on your own personal style.
Various metals and materials are employed in crafting jewelry, each possessing its own distinct texture and visual appeal. Take into account what metals are typically used in the jewelry styles you favor. Experiment with a range of options, such as gold, silver, rose gold, platinum, or even innovative materials like titanium or stainless steel. When determining the metals and materials that align most harmoniously with your lifestyle and preferences, take into account factors such as skin sensitivity, longevity, and maintenance requirements. Always go with what works best for you.
To ensure that the jewelry style you select enhances your natural allure, take into account the tones of your skin. Cool undertones, which include shades of pink and blue, harmonize beautifully with silver, white gold, and jewel-toned jewelry, while warm skin undertones, encompassing hues like yellow, peach, or golden, tend to complement earthy-toned pieces and yellow gold. Do some research and see which jewelry styles incorporate more of the metals and jewels that are a good fit for your skin.
Experiment with layering and blending various components to craft an original and multi-dimensional design. Explore stacking rings, intermingling metals and textures, or pairing necklaces of varying lengths. Through the art of layering and combining jewelry styles, you can showcase your creativity and individuality, adding depth and aesthetic allure to your overall appearance. See if layering is a jewelry style you’re into.
Each person’s personal jewelry collection should include at least one signature statement piece that is more than just an accessory, like our Curved Corner necklace. It's a reflection of their identity, a testament to their unique style, and often, a repository of cherished memories. This special item could be a family heirloom, a gift from a loved one, or a piece acquired on a significant occasion. Its value transcends its monetary worth, as it carries with it a rich history and sentimental attachment.
A signature piece is often carefully chosen to embody the wearer's personality and taste. Whether it's an elegant necklace, a distinctive ring, or a timeless bracelet, this jewelry resonates deeply with the individual, making a statement about who they are and what they hold dear.
Such a piece can become a conversation starter, drawing compliments and inquiries from admirers. It may have a distinctive design, a unique gemstone, or a one-of-a-kind craftsmanship that sets it apart. Over time, it becomes a symbol of the wearer's character and life journey.
Investing in high-quality jewelry enhances its longevity and durability. Focus on the meticulous craftsmanship, precision in settings, and the use of premium materials. Superior jewelry boasts a more refined aesthetic and preserves its value over the years. Prioritize reputable brands or trusted jewelers who can ensure both quality and authenticity.
The key to nurturing your jewelry style is to trust your instincts and remain true to yourself, even as you explore trends and outside sources of inspiration. Your jewelry collection should be a reflection of your preferences, tastes, and individuality. Opt for pieces that resonate deeply with you, elevating your self-esteem and enhancing your sense of beauty. Embracing your unique style will infuse your jewelry choices with greater meaning and authenticity.

Regardless of whether you gravitate towards boho-style jewelry, gothic-style jewelry, art deco jewelry or whether vintage jewelry is more your style, the key lies in discovering pieces that resonate with your own unique style.

The Isadora Diamond necklace worn by Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is considered one of the most valuable and famous pieces in movie jewelry history. The stunning diamond necklace was designed by the famous American jeweler Harry Winston specifically for the film. It features a radiant-cut, yellow diamond of around 24 carats as its centerpiece, surrounded by smaller white diamonds.
This exquisite piece of famous movie jewelry plays a prominent role in the film, and it becomes a focal point of attention during a memorable musical number in which Marilyn Monroe performs "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend." Marilyn Monroe wore the necklace along with diamond bracelets and earrings.
Audrey Hepburn's iconic portrayal of Holly Golightly in the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany's left a mark on fashion, including famous jewelry. One of the standout accessories from her ensemble in the film was the stunning diamond and pearl necklace she wore.
The “Tiffany Diamond & Pearl Necklace,” which remains on display at the NYC flagship Tiffany & Co. store on Fifth Avenue, features a yellow diamond that is 128.54 carats as its centerpiece. The diamond is in a choker-style necklace surrounded by a wide collar of diamonds set in platinum to create a shimmering backdrop to the spectacular yellow diamond centerpiece. To complement the yellow diamond and add an elegant touch to the necklace, pearls are interspersed throughout the diamond collar. These pearls provide a beautiful contrast to the dazzling diamonds.
In the film Pretty Woman, Julia Roberts takes on the role of Vivian,a woman who undergoes a significant change thanks to the influence of both love and wealth. One memorable moment in the movie is when Roberts dons an elegant, long red gown as she prepares to attend her first opera. This scene is made truly iconic by the presentation of a stunning ruby and diamond collar necklace from Edward, played by Richard Gere, to enhance her attire.
The famous jewelry’s exquisite design was crafted by the renowned French jewelry designer Fred Joaillier. However, for security reasons during filming, costume designer Marilyn Vance-Straker replicated the necklace using high-quality cubic zirconia and red spinel gemstones set in silver and white gold. The famous jewelry became synonymous with the message of transformation and the idea that even someone from a less privileged background, like Vivian, could be adorned with luxury and elegance.
In James Cameron’s 1997 film, Titanic, Rose DeWitt Bukater (played by Kate Winslet) is gifted a massive heart-shaped blue diamond pendant necklace with a diamond-encrusted border by her fiance Cal Hockley (played by Billy Zane). It supposedly had been previously owned by Louis XVI of France and subsequently cut into a heart shape after the French Revolution.
The necklace served as a plot centerpiece to the film as it was the reason Brock Lovett (played by Bill Paxton) was out in the deep ocean at the beginning of the film. He was searching for the piece of movie jewelry in the wreckage. This leads an elderly Rose to helicopter out to the ship and then tell her tale of the ship’s sinking and how she received the famous jewelry.
While the necklace in the film is portrayed as a blue diamond, the actual prop was not made with a real diamond due to the cost and the potential risk of loss or damage during filming. Instead, the heart-shaped stone was likely made from a high-quality cubic zirconia or a similar synthetic gemstone, which could mimic the appearance of a large, blue diamond.
If you’re looking for this type of bold pendant style, take a look at Zink Metals’ Curved Corner Necklace or Bright Blue Druzy Necklace. Both of these pieces offer a different type of bold pendant on a simple chain to highlight the statement pieces.
Carrie Bradshaw's famous "Carrie" necklace is a piece of famous jewelry that gained widespread recognition through the popular TV series Sex and the City. The main character Carrie Bradshaw, portrayed by actress Sarah Jessica Parker, wore this necklace as a signature accessory throughout the show's run, which aired from 1998 to 2004. The necklace became synonymous with Carrie's distinctive style and served as a symbol of her identity.
The "Carrie" necklace features a delicate gold chain with a small, cursive-style nameplate pendant that spells out the name "Carrie." The necklace was custom-made for the show by the New York-based jewelry designer Jennifer Fisher, and it became a fashion sensation in its own right. Its simplicity and personalized touch made it a desirable piece of jewelry for fans of the show.It became a symbol of empowerment and self-expression, embodying the idea that fashion and personal style are about making statements and embracing individuality.
The necklace made cameo appearances in both the "Sex and the City" movies, further solidifying its status as a cultural icon. The "Carrie" necklace remains a beloved and enduring symbol of the show and its impact on fashion and pop culture, making it an essential piece of TV history.
We love the simplicity of the “Carrie” necklace, and the fact that it was worn as an “everyday jewelry” piece in the series. If this is the type of jewelry you prefer to rock, you may want to take a look at the Zink Metals XOXO Necklace that features a simple. silver chain with a sterling silver pendant featuring a 24k gold “X”s.
When actor Ben Affleck first proposed to triple threat Jennifer Lopez in 2002, he presented her a high-profile engagement ring made of an emerald-cut pink diamond surrounded by two other emerald-cut diamonds. The ring was designed by famed celebrity jewelry designer Harry Winston.
The centerpiece pink diamond was extremely rare and the exact carat amount still hasn’t been publicly disclosed. The pink diamond was set in an elegant, yet simplistic platinum setting that allowed the fantastic pink diamond to be the center of the show. Even though their initial engagement was called off in 2004, this unique piece still stands out as a piece of iconic singer jewelry history. And of course, the two have now gotten back together almost 20 years later and are now married.
If big gemstones are a favorite of yours, take a look at Zink Metals’ Eros Garnet Ring. It features a hexagonal garnet stone set in alternating panels of stainless steel that go across a second finger, creating a strong geometric pattern that is definitely a head-turner!
In the peak of the plot for the romantic comedy film, "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days," Andy Anderson (played by Kate Hudson) and Benjamin Berry (played by Matthew McConaughey) were at a gala designed to promote a jewelry line that Benjamin's ad agency represented. Benjamin was trying to be assigned the lead on the account, so he had taken a bet that he could make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days.
Meanwhile, magazine writer Andy was writing an article saying she could get a guy to break up with her in 10 days. Despite this ongoing battle, both had fallen in love with each other, and Andy had come up with the campaign slogan to "frost yourself" with jewelry...and she had been lent the “Isador Yellow Diamond Necklace" at the gala to perfectly adorn her yellow gown.
The Isador Yellow Diamond Necklace was a diamond-shaped yellow diamond pendant that hung from a collar of white diamonds. It was set in platinum or white gold to highlight the yellow color of the diamond and encourage the sparkle. This piece of celebrity jewelry was intended to be a statement piece and had been emulated by other designers and worn as red carpet jewelry, such as a similar piece worn by Lady Gaga at the 2019 Oscars.
From the timeless elegance of Audrey Hepburn's pearls in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" to the heart-wrenching splendor of the Heart of the Ocean necklace in "Titanic," and the iconic "Carrie" necklace from "Sex and the City," these famous jewelry treasures have transcended the silver screen to become symbols of timeless style, sophistication and influence.

]]>The resounding theme from the fall 2023 fashion shows can be summed up in one word: variety. From minimalist classic hoop earrings to statement pieces like large brooches and pendant necklaces, this fall’s jewelry will be all about whatever best serves your own personal style. We narrowed down some common pieces we saw to help you be on trend for this fall and ensure you stay updated on how to best accessorize your new fall outfits.
Pearl necklaces possess an enduring elegance that resonates across generations, adorning the jewelry boxes of both grandmothers and Gen-Z nieces alike. Embracing the spirit of Fall 2023, renowned fashion brands such as Chanel, Chloé, and Carolina Herrera paid homage to these lustrous treasures by artfully draping them over thick chokers and entwining them into gracefully layered strands. Other designers placed pearls in clusters as well as asymmetrical arrangements. Zink Metals’ Biwa Pearl Circle Cluster Necklace lands right on par with this trend.
Don't underestimate the influence of fabulous hoop earrings, which took center stage on the fall runways, showcasing variations in thick, chunky gold; artistic, sculptural silver; and even innovative double or quadruple stacking, as seen in Valentino's collection. Embracing a pair of hoops as an everyday classic is a smart choice, but prioritizing lightweight and comfortable options is key. A unique twist on the classic hoop is Zink Metals’ Circle Stud Earrings, which allows the full circles to be seen instead of just the front.
The term “power pendant” would be a good way to describe what we saw on the runways for 2023 fall jewelry. Huge statement necklace pendants were used to adorn more simplistic fashion pieces down the runway. This could be attached to a choker-size necklace, or longer chains, but pendants definitely are not meant to be “itty bitty” this fall. If you aren’t ready to rock the super XL versions that many strutted with on the runways, you can start with Zink Metals’ XOXO Necklace: Silver and Gold, a more pared-down version.
One captivating item that made a frequent appearance on fall jewelry runways were colorful gemstones. Shades of blue, green, pink and yellow took center stage in gemstones such as aquamarine, topaz, garnet, spinel, and opal. These were featured in both necklaces and rings in multiple fall fashion shows. Zink Metals has an entire collection dedicated to beautiful color jewelry pieces that will keep you on trend with fall jewelry but let you showcase your individual style.
As we transition into Fall 2023, jewelry trends are leaning towards statement pieces that exude confidence and personality. Bold cuffs are stealing the spotlight as a top trending jewelry accessory, seamlessly infusing outfits with an air of elegance and edginess. With their intricate designs and striking presence, these cuffs effortlessly elevate your fashion game, especially if they include punk details like spikes, which are also on trend for this fall.. Whether you're dressing up for a formal event or seeking to add an extra layer of allure to your everyday look, you should definitely try a bold cuff as part of your fall jewelry for 2023.
These aren’t your grandma’s brooches we’re talking about. These are show-stopping, jaw-dropping, spotlight pieces that bring all the focus. Maximalist pins were seen in quirky surrealist forms at Schiaparelli, irreverent hand motifs were seen at Coperni, and drooping, dramatic crystals were seen at Gucci. There was also an aura of playful jewels inspired by the natural world, from scarab beetle brooches to diamond-and-gold lightning bolts. The brooch rule of thumb for this fall’s jewelry trend is “go big or go home.” Try adding a large brooch to a simple dress or blouse to add that “wow” effect this fall.
One of the minimalist jewelry trends for fall 2023 is yellow gold, barely there chains. We saw these worn on necks, wrists and even ankles. These are great choices for everyday jewelry, and Zink Metals offers yellow gold-filled chains as part of its Permanent Jewelry collection.
Permanent jewelry is jewelry that is intended to be worn permanently, without being taken off, or at least for a long time such as 6 months or more. These bracelets are welded shut, so they stay on for a long time. You can shower, exercise, or even swim with permanent jewelry. They would be a great choice for this minimalist trend for fall jewelry 2023.
Whether your jewelry style is bold and beautiful or subtle and serene, the trending jewelry for this fall offers options for you. Zink Metals offers many of the trending jewelry styles in unique pieces that are sure to set you apart while still staying on trend.

In a world where mass-produced jewelry dominates the market, there's something truly extraordinary about adorning yourself with custom, hand-crafted jewelry pieces. Each meticulously crafted necklace, ring, or bracelet carries with it a story of passion, creativity, and attention to detail. Choosing handmade jewelry not only ensures a higher artisan quality that radiates through every intricate design, but it also grants you the opportunity to stand out and showcase your individual style with pieces as unique as you are. By embracing handmade jewelry, you become a patron of small businesses and individual artistry, empowering talented artisans and celebrating the invaluable beauty of their skillful creations.
While tweens often want nothing but to fit in and have the exact same clothing and jewelry as everyone else in their class, teens and grown-ups have evolved to want to stand out in a crowd. Remember showing up to homecoming in the exact same dress as someone else and being mortified? This age range is when the desire for attention first surfaces and then carries into adulthood. And what better way to stand out than with handmade jewelry?
Adorning oneself with jewelry that resonates with personal style can boost confidence and self-assurance. Feeling good about how one looks can positively impact their interactions and overall demeanor in social settings. In a crowd where people might dress similarly, wearing distinctive jewelry, like handmade silver jewelry, can make a bold statement and set individuals apart. It can be an effective conversation starter and can attract attention to the wearer's unique taste and flair.
Unique and striking jewelry can leave a lasting impression on others. It can become a defining characteristic that people associate with the wearer, making them more memorable in various social and professional interactions. What better way to shine brighter than the rest than with a unique handmade jewelry piece that nobody else in the world has?
Along with allowing a person’s star to shine just a bit brighter, handmade jewelry pieces allow them to express their individual creativity. They can find a unique handmade jewelry piece that perfectly expresses their personality. Take for example our long bar Eros Garnet Ring. This unique light and dark ring features angled alternating metal panels and a hexagonal garnet. You won’t find another person wearing this ring at a party!
Jewelry allows individuals to express their personality, style, and individuality without saying a word. Whether it's a bold statement necklace, a stack of unique rings, or an elegant bracelet, the pieces one chooses to wear can communicate volumes about their tastes, values, and interests.
Sometimes, depending on the jewelry artist, a customer can request a custom-crafted piece incorporating initials, a specifically larger or smaller size ring, or even a specific gem in a specific shape. Handcrafted jewelry is seen more as wearable art than just another simple adornment.
Although the prices of handmade jewelry are often a bit more than mass-produced jewelry, the reason for that is a time investment in the artistic process, including the preparation of materials. This intense, artisan process is what produces a hardy, lasting piece of jewelry that is well worth the initial up-front investment.
The artisans who create handmade jewelry have greater control over the materials they use, which leads to better choices in terms of quality and suitability for the specific design. Mass-produced jewelry may sometimes use lower-quality materials to keep costs down.
Also, the artisans who create handmade jewelry pay close attention to detail and take pride in their work. The craftsmanship and attention to detail result in a higher-quality piece that is less likely to break or deteriorate over time compared to some mass-produced items that may be made with less care.
Time-honored artisan jewelry traditions are passed down across generations. One great example of these is the filigree process I used to create the Zink Metals Large Circle Filigree Necklace and Small Circle Filigree Necklaces. The filigree process, a Russian artisan tradition, involves meticulously crafting delicate and intricate metalwork using fine wires or threads to create decorative patterns and designs.
By purchasing unique handcrafted jewelry, like the handmade silver jewelry created using filigree, you are supporting small businesses and the families they support. You are supporting the teaching of these artisan traditions to new generations to keep them alive.
I appreciate those who have become customers as well as those who just appreciate seeing all of Zink Metals’ current available handmade jewelry pieces.
]]>Jewelry has been an integral part of human culture for centuries, adorning individuals with beauty, symbolism, and personality. Whether it's a casual day at the office or an extravagant wedding celebration, choosing the right jewelry can enhance your overall look and make you feel confident and elegant. For everyday jewelry, it's essential to choose pieces that are versatile, comfortable, and suitable for all your activities. Keep it simple with dainty pieces that won't get in the way of your daily tasks. This is especially something you should consider for business casual jewelry to ensure your jewelry doesn’t impede your work. Minimalist necklaces, stud earrings, and delicate bracelets are perfect casual jewelry options that can be effortlessly worn throughout the day. Zink Metals offers permanent jewelry applications, where the bracelet is welded together around your wrist so it doesn’t accidentally fall off.
We have a beautiful selection of permanent 14k gold-filled and sterling silver bracelets that you can wear on your wrist permanently or for as long as you’d like. These pieces are great for effortless everyday jewelry. Our permanent jewelry is perfect for those who want to make a statement with their accessories with a delicate bracelet or wear multiple layered bracelets.
When it comes to choosing jewelry for work, it's crucial to strike the right balance between elegance and conservatism while avoiding anything overly distracting. A classic wristwatch can add a touch of sophistication to your look while also serving a practical purpose by helping you keep track of time during busy workdays.
For earrings, opt for stud earrings as they are subtle. But just because they are studs doesn’t mean they can’t have a unique stylish edge to them! The Zink Metals Broken Sterling Silver Stud Earrings are created with a unique broken silver technique that makes each set one-of-a-kind.
Simple necklaces, like pearls or delicate chains, can complement your attire without overpowering it. These understated choices convey professionalism and ensure that your work jewelry doesn't overshadow your skills and expertise in the workplace.
Formal events present a splendid opportunity to shine with exquisite and bold jewelry that embodies elegance and sophistication. Don captivating necklaces adorned with precious gemstones or sparkling diamonds, elevating your ensemble with a touch of luxury. For a truly unique and artisanal look, consider a handcrafted necklace like our Eros Necklace, that exudes craftsmanship and individuality, making a complete statement on its own. Or make a statement with formal earrings like the Broken Tourmaline Earrings.
These handcrafted pieces add a distinctive charm to your attire, setting you apart from the crowd and leaving a lasting impression at any formal occasion. Embrace the allure of carefully crafted jewelry as it complements your style and personality, making you stand out as the epitome of grace and refinement.
When the night calls for a romantic date, let your allure shine with the perfect statement formal earrings of an artisanal nature. Take for example our Mod Silver Drop Earrings. These handcrafted date night earrings exude allure and romance, setting the mood for an unforgettable evening with your special someone.
If these aren’t your style, adorn your neck with shimmering gemstones or intricate designs–whatever is sure to draw attention to your neckline and accentuate your natural beauty. Date night jewelry needs to make a bold statement, yet strike the perfect balance between alluring and refined. It needs to let your confidence and charm radiate while captivating your date all night long.
Weddings are a once-in-a-lifetime celebration, and the jewelry chosen for this momentous occasion should be nothing short of sophisticated and glamorous. For the bride, it's a chance to embrace her inner radiance with exquisite pieces that complement her wedding attire and personality. Consider statement earrings that frame the face with dazzling brilliance, a stunning necklace that cascades elegantly down the neckline, or an elegant tiara that crowns her with a touch of regal charm. These carefully chosen accessories elevate the bride's look, making her the epitome of beauty and grace as she walks down the aisle.
For guests attending the wedding, the choice of special occasion jewelry should be refined and tasteful. It's essential to select pieces that enhance their attire without overpowering the focus of the day—the happy couple. Delicate and elegant jewelry, such as classic pearl earrings or a timeless pendant necklace, can add a touch of sophistication to their ensemble. Subtle touches of sparkle and a dash of elegance will ensure that guests feel appropriately dressed for the special occasion while letting the bride and groom be the center of attention.
In conclusion, jewelry is a powerful way to express yourself and enhance your appearance for any occasion. By considering what the event is, your role, the outfit you will wear, the environment you’ll be in, and the required comfort factor, you can choose jewelry that will create a captivating and unforgettable look no matter what the occasion.
Filigree design is a meticulous art that involves the intricate manipulation of thin metal strips, skillfully woven and twisted to create captivating textures and intricate details. The process of crafting filigree jewelry by hand is methodical and time-consuming, beginning with the careful stretching of metal into delicate, threadlike strips. This step demands great patience and remains a cherished practice among jewelry artisans, who employ their skilled hands to create these intricate elements.
Archaeologists unearthed the earliest known fossilized examples of filigree in ancient Greece and Mesopotamia, dating back more than 5,000 years. The term "filigree" derives from the Latin words "filum," meaning thread, and "granum," meaning grain, which aptly describes the delicate metal strips utilized in its creation.
In addition to its popularity among the Romans, the art of filigree also found its way to Russia, where it became a cherished craft. The practice of filigree in Russia can be traced back to the 12th century. Russian filigree techniques developed unique characteristics that set them apart from other regions.
Russian filigree craftsmanship became renowned for its exceptional attention to detail, precise soldering, and the skillful combination of filigree work with gemstone settings. This distinctive style attracted admiration and gained international recognition, making Russian filigree a highly sought-after art form.
Russian filigree is the technique I use in my designs for Zink Metals, including my Large Circle Filigree Necklace and Small Circle Filigree Necklace.
The process of creating filigree jewelry involves 3 main processes, each entailing several individual steps to create my finished piece. The 3 processes to create filigree jewelry include:
The process I use to create the filigree wire includes 7 steps, which we’ll discuss in more detail below.
The first step in the filigree process is to prepare the wire. I work with fine silver wire because it has a higher melting temperature and because its softness is helpful in the long run when making the filigree designs. For my filigree jewelry, I primarily use wire that has been folded over and twisted together, which takes several passes.
I start by preparing approximately four feet of 26-gauge round fine silver wire. This provides ample wire to ensure I have enough to create the intricate design. Next, I fold the wire in half, creating a double strand.
Using a hand crank drill, I carefully rotate the silver wire while keeping the wire taut. The wire starts out as “soft” and easy to form and then gets work hardened, which can be easily broken if I’m not careful. It’s important to stop the twisting before the wire breaks. To achieve the desired twisted effect, I make several passes, gradually increasing the level of twist with each pass.
The process of annealing helps improve the working properties of the metal to soften it for the next steps. It involves heating it to a “subcritical” temperature (1100° F) and then cooling it to room temperature up to 70%. I use the flame to anneal the twisted wire, making it soft and pliable without melting it. After annealing, the wire is ready for further twisting.
Now that my silver wire is annealed, I return to the hand crank drill and resume twisting the wire to enhance the level of tightness of the twist.I then repeat the alternating process of shaping and annealing until the wire is tightly twisted.
After the annealing and twisting process, I take the tightly twisted wire to the rolling mill. Then I pass the wire through the rolling mill to flatten it out so it's ready to be shaped into my desired pattern.
Now it’s time for the final annealing process. I perform one last annealing to maintain the wire's softness and workability.
The final step in creating the wire is to create the design for my filigree jewelry piece. The twisted, flattened, and annealed wire is now ready to be incorporated into the filigree pattern. The next step is to create the solder.
I was taught how to make filigree using the Russian technique, whose solder recipe requires the use of a specific Russian 50 Kopeks silver coin from the years of 1924-1926, and shows the picture of a blacksmith hammering on an anvil. This coin has the proper metal makeup to create the ideal solder.
The following are the steps I take to create the filigree solder:
The first step in soldering the piece is to roll the previously mentioned Russian silver coin to make it thinner and more malleable. After rolling, I then cut the coin into smaller pieces to allow it to more easily be melted together with the other part of the solder.
After I cut the silver coin into smaller pieces, I then combine the cut pieces with 2.5 grams of copper. I melt the coin and copper mixture together until they fuse into a nugget form.
To better be able to create the solder, I use a vise and clamp the nugget into it. I then use a coarse file on the nugget to create shavings, and then collect the metal shavings.
The final step of creating the solder is to take the metal shavings collected from the filing of the solder nugget and mix them with 20-Mule Team Borax from the laundry section of the grocery store. Borax acts as a flux, ensuring the cleanliness of the metal pieces during the heating process and promotes proper adhesion.
At this point in the process, I begin creating each unique filigree jewelry piece using the following steps:
The first step in the actual filigree jewelry piece creation is to set up an easily burnable backing. I do this by using a special glue and rolling paper used for smoking tobacco, I glue down the rolling paper onto a small piece of manilla folder. The idea is that you want to use glue and a backing that will burn off as cleanly as possible.
After getting the backing ready, I then glue down what will be the frame of the piece to the rolling paper. Recently I’ve been using steel pieces from different-shaped tubing.
Next is where each piece's unique qualities shine through. I utilize two types of tweezers to lay out the fine silver wire design inside the frame. One is a thin and sharp pair, and the other is a structurally strong pair with small tips. Using the strong pair, I form bends, curves, and loops in the wire.
It’s important to avoid leaving any open ends of the wire to prevent catching and snagging, so I employ special super flush wire cutters to cut the wire for a clean look. I gently place each formed piece of wire within the frame, checking for fit and ensuring as many contact points as possible.
I secure the wire in place by applying a small amount of the special glue to hold the wires in place after fitting each piece.
In the final stage of filigree jewelry design, I add to the design until I deem it complete. Lastly, I set the piece aside to dry completely.
The next step is soldering the frame to the filigree piece. Using a propane torch with a bushy flame, I gently heat the piece to a soldering temperature, which burns off the rolling paper and glue. Then I gently heat the piece until the solder flows. At this point, it will start to look shiny, but I need to be careful to not let it get red hot as it could melt the piece. After flipping it over to make sure to “pull” the solder through to the other side, I place the piece in a heated pickle solution to clean up the surface.
Now we’re at the final step in finishing the filigree jewelry piece. After everything is soldered together, I attach all the parts together needed to make the jewelry wearable. This may include a necklace chain or earring stud and any other piece needed to attach those items that wasn’t already soldered in the previous steps. Then I put the finishing touches on the piece by cleaning up the fine silver filigree with a brush and pumice powder, applying a patina on the steel to blacken it, and finally applying a wax seal to the final product.
With all the intricate details incorporated in each piece, it’s clear that each filigree jewelry creation is as unique as the next with its own distinct filigree design.
Filigree jewelry design is a meticulous art that involves the intricate manipulation of thin metal strips, skillfully woven and twisted to create captivating textures and intricate details. I hope you enjoyed learning about the journey I take when creating Zink Metals’ unique filigree jewelry.

Jewelry has become an important piece of human culture. It is passed down from generation to generation. It is exchanged as symbols of love at weddings. But when exactly did jewelry make its debut in the world? We did some research on this topic to enlighten you about how daily adornment became a part of our lives as everyday jewelry.
Anthropologists have dated the earliest piece of jewelry as a simple necklace made of fishbones found in a cave in Monaco, dated 25,000 years ago. Was this for a princess? Was it worn by a fisherman? Of course, we will never know for sure.
What we do know about the history of jewelry, is that we can trace the evolution from its beginnings in Africa to empires along the Mediterranean Sea, into Europe, and finally to the United States.
The Egyptians made bracelets of multiple colored gemstones: amethyst, carnelian, and turquoise were a few of their favorites. Every Egyptian, no matter their age or social status, wore some type of jewelry–be it rings, earrings, bracelets, pectorals, necklaces, crowns, girdles, or amulets. Egyptians saw jewelry as a form of protection and power, so they never left home without it. Of course, the richer the person, the more elaborate the jewelry materials. People of lower classes wore strings of clay beads while the Pharaohs were adorned in gold and gems.
By the time of the Roman era, upper arm bracelets became popular, as were necklaces and other jewelry made from gold coins. Lower social classes in Rome would have worn jewelry made of bronze, copper, or other less-expensive metals. Higher classes would have worn solid gold necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings. Some bracelets were fashioned like snakes that wrapped around, while others used screws as fasteners.

The Byzantine Empire, led by Constantine in 330 AD, merged the jewelry cultures of Greece, Egypt, and the Near East with parts of Russia. This melting pot led to new types of jewelry art called “cloisonne enameling” where glass glaze was poured, set into pre-soldered cells, and fired at a high temperature to melt the glaze into a permanent design.
Before the Roman invasion, the Celts didn’t use coinage but instead used “ring-money”. These rings were of silver, copper, bronze, or gold and weren’t intended for wearing but were solely used as a currency.
Despite what one might think, there were times throughout history when silver was valued more highly than gold. If you examine the quantities of silver used in jewelry, even today, its use outweighs all other precious metals by a large factor.
Silver can be cast, hammered into extremely thin sheets, engraved, embossed, and decorated with granulation. Silver is one of my favorite jewelry materials to work with, like in my “Swell” broken silver necklace. This versatile white metal has also triggered far more technological advances in the field of mining and metallurgy than other precious metals. Entire economies have depended on silver’s availability, and the access to silver deposits has swung wars and as a result, history. Silver was considered a “strategic war material” during WWII because of shortages of tin and aluminum. Silver is without doubt one of the most important metals in use by mankind.
Steel is another one of my favored metals to work with; many of Zink Metals jewelry pieces are made of steel.
To better understand the origins of steel jewelry, we must first look at the discovery of the metal itself. The earliest traces of steel can be traced back to artifacts dated around 1800 BC. But stainless steel, which is what we think of today as steel, was officially created in 1913 by English chemist Harry Brearly, who was trying to design a metal that was resistant to rust and corrosion. These same qualities also eventually drew jewelry makers to steel as well — and it all began with watches. French watchmaker Cartier began using normal steel in the 1840s in its men’s watches. The rich legacy of steel's incorporation into luxurious jewelry pieces, such as these iconic Cartier watches of the past, continues to inspire and shape the artistic vision behind contemporary artisan jewelry designs.

The unique hand-crafted pieces in Zink Metals’ collections are a major part of its appeal. The care taken in creating each piece is what brings them the most value. This can also be said about blacksmith jewelry throughout history.
Dating back to ancient civilizations, blacksmith jewelry played an essential role in society. Forged with intricate designs and exceptional craftsmanship, silver and steel jewelry became a symbol of wealth and status. In diverse cultures such as Egypt, Greece, and Rome, blacksmiths adorned people with exquisite silver and steel jewelry, reflecting their craftsmanship and attention to detail.
This especially rang true in Russia with the Russian filigree, a jewelry technique for making elaborate openwork products from a very thin metal wire by connecting individual elements by soldering. This very complex and time-consuming technique involves the jewelry artist spending several weeks or even months to create a unique jewelry masterpiece. The filigree jewelry technique is one I implement in some of my pieces.
During the Renaissance, blacksmith jewelry-making experienced a renaissance of its own. Artisans began incorporating precious gemstones and intricate filigree work into their designs, creating breathtaking pieces that transcended mere functionality. The popularity of blacksmith jewelry soared as it became a coveted accessory for the upper classes.
As time passed, blacksmith jewelry evolved to become accessible to people from all walks of life. The Industrial Revolution played a significant role in this transformation, as advances in technology allowed for mass production of silver and steel jewelry. Everyday individuals could now embrace the elegance of blacksmith jewelry, adorning themselves with exquisite pieces that reflected their personal style.
In today’s world, the jewelry we wear was likely influenced in some way by jewelry throughout history. From large gold statement necklaces influenced by the Romans to gemstone jewelry inspired by Eqyptians to enameled jewelry-making taken from the Byzantine Era, today’s jewelry reflects many of these techniques.
Today, blacksmith jewelry artisans continue to blend traditional blacksmithing techniques with innovative designs, creating unique pieces that blend the old with the new. The combination of silver and steel jewelry allows for striking contrasts, where delicate silver elements can be offset by the boldness of steel, resulting in visually captivating jewelry.
The history of blacksmith jewelry using silver and steel showcases the evolution of an art form that has stood the test of time. From their origins as symbols of wealth to the democratization of everyday jewelry, blacksmiths have continued to shape the world of adornment. Today, this type of jewelry represents both a celebration of tradition and a medium for contemporary expression, capturing the imagination of jewelry enthusiasts across the globe.
Trained in blacksmithing and metalsmithing techniques, Zink Metals jewelry uses a combination of steel and silver among other materials, including gold, fine silver, and gemstones. Many of the styles and techniques used in our jewelry pieces were influenced by the jewelry artisans from history. The next time you accessorize with a piece of jewelry, consider the historical influences that may have shaped its creation.

Do you have multiple styles and types of jewelry but don’t know what to wear together? Learning how to mix and match jewelry can take some practice. Whether you’re looking for how to match jewelry with your outfit, wearing matching jewelry sets, or looking for ways to combine multiple pieces of jewelry, you’ve come to the right place. In this guide, we’ll explore the secrets to creating captivating combinations that will make your style unique.
Before you start mixing your jewelry, it’s crucial to define your personal style. Identifying your overall style will enable you to determine what type of jewelry is best to wear, be it as standalone pieces or in combination with other accessories. Your clothing choice should align with your jewelry style, ensuring a complementary overall look. Contrasting styles make you look disheveled. Wearing mismatched styles creates an appearance of disarray you likely don’t want to convey.
Timeless styles embody their name: classic. They transcend generations, remaining enduringly fashionable. From understated stud earrings to a strand of pearls to bangle bracelets, the classics never go out of style. These elegant accessories complement business attire, preppy fashion, or a sophisticated evening dress. When matching classic jewelry, it’s advisable to keep it simple by opting for consistent metals and gems between necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.
Bohemian fashion embraces a laid-back, carefree vibe with its flowing garments, artistic patterns, and vintage pieces. If you identify with a free-spirited outlook and prioritize comfort above all, you likely embody a bohemian style. While this style itself rebels against convention, you have a bit more flexibility when mixing jewelry. Layered necklaces, bold statement rings, and stacked bracelets go great with boho aesthetics. Natural colored gemstones enhance the artistic flare that embodies this style, With many styles adhering to the “less is more” principle, feel free to unleash your creativity and go wild when your style leans towards bohemian.
Are you up on the latest fashion trends and always in style? With modern styles — whether you’re into modern streetwear or designer fashions — you must stay ahead of the curve. Modern fashion often incorporates sleek lines, minimalist designs, and contemporary aesthetics. Modern industrial designs can be a trendy choice to stand out from the crowd. Delicate geometric earrings and sleek pendant necklaces can effortlessly enhance your modern look. Remember, finding jewelry that aligns with your modern style will accentuate your fashion-forward sensibilities and create a cohesive and polished appearance.

Regardless of your personal style, investing in high-quality, timeless pieces of jewelry can be the foundation for mixing and matching accessories. Permanent chain jewelry, for instance, can serve as a versatile base for layering other pieces. Understanding your overall style can enable you to select a few everyday jewelry essentials while also having a range of additional accessories to mix and match for your distinctive look. By taking your clothing style into account, you can create a cohesive look that reflects your thoughtful approach to fashion.
Whether you’re matching a necklace and bracelet, earrings and a necklace, or a combination of various accessories, it's important to strike a balance and avoid going overboard. Too many large or overpowering pieces may overwhelm your look. Opting for a single statement piece alongside simple complimentary jewelry can make a dramatic effect. Alternatively, for a more refined and curated appearance, you may consider selecting matching jewelry sets.
While there are no strict rules regarding the number of pieces to wear, focusing on a central focal point can serve as a helpful starting point. Whether you decide to layer multiple necklaces or showcase bold earrings, pick one main piece and build around it. Simple stud earrings and a modest ring can complement chunky necklaces. While a long chain necklace paired with a bangle bracelet in the same metal, finish, and thickness offers a standout option.
Whether you opt for matching jewelry sets or choose pieces in the same collection, matching jewelry offers a seamless styling solution. Sets often incorporate consistent metals, shapes, and colors, resulting in a cohesive look. Matching jewelry sets are well-suited for formal occasions or a night on the town. Sets typically consist of two jewelry pieces, such as matching earrings and a necklace or a coordinating necklace and bracelet. Sets can encompass various combinations of matching jewelry — for example, earrings, a necklace, and a ring crafted from the same metal and featuring identical gemstone colors.
It can be safe to stick to either silver or gold jewelry for all your accessories. Alternatively, an impactful way to create a distinctive look is to embrace jewelry that combines different metals. The trend of mixed metals jewelry allows for a fashion-forward approach and offers a unique style statement. Whether it's pairing steel and silver pieces together or layering items in gold and silver, incorporating mixed metals into your ensemble can result in a trendy and eye-catching choice.
Layering necklaces, wearing multiple earrings in each ear, and stacking bangle bracelets all create a dramatic visual impact. Although these techniques are commonly associated with bohemian or hipster styles, wearing multiple pieces of the same jewelry type can be suitable for various fashion ensembles.
When layering multiple necklaces, choosing varying lengths and complimentary chains can create an eye-catching look. For instance, a single long pendant with a shorter bar necklace and a thicker chain necklace layers well. And doubling or even tripling an extra-long, thick chain necklace can make a bold statement when worn with a basic tank top or camisole. Layering multiple chain bracelets with a bangle or bracelets of different colors are also great options.
While it can help to follow some fundamental styling guidelines, it’s important to embrace and personalize your own unique style. When it comes to mixing and matching jewelry, trust your instincts and select pieces that resonate with you and bring you joy. Explore the diverse collection of Zink Metals jewelry, allowing you the freedom to mix and match to your heart's delight!

From delicate chain jewelry for the minimalist to colorful gemstones and pearls that bring a playful allure, the summer of 2023 promises an array of captivating options. The season also brings a fascination with unusual cuts, the timeless beauty of silver, and the luxurious textures of gold jewelry. Let's delve into the top jewelry trends that will effortlessly enhance your summer looks and keep you ahead of the fashion curve.
Chain jewelry has been around for centuries. From Ancient Egyptian jewelry to the modern chunky chain link jewelry of today, chains have remained a part of both everyday wear and high fashion on the runway. This summer is no different. Dainty silver or gold chains are a classic and are great for everyday styles. While chains with unique shapes and varying sizes can make a statement when you want to stand out at your next summer event.
Chain bracelets can be worn as an everyday accessory or paired with a summer party dress. You might consider a permanent bracelet as a timeless accessory to your daily attire for one less thing to worry about putting on and taking off each day. Because one thing we love about summer is the laid-back atmosphere and taking it easy. And permanent jewelry bracelets can be worn while swimming and doing other outdoor activities so they’re perfect for the summer.
When you want to make a statement, chunky chain necklaces are the perfect way to complete an outfit. Chains with unique shapes like diamonds or rectangles are on-trend for the season. We’re also seeing a lot of chains with varying shapes and sizes that will be sure to make you stand out from the crowd this summer. Chains necklaces can be the perfect complement to a simple tank or dress without a lot of effort.
Nothing says summer more than vibrant colors. Colorful jewelry is always a fun jewelry trend we look forward to every summer. And this summer is no exception. Colorful gemstones are all the rage this year. And emeralds are especially making their mark this summer with their earthy tones and bright shades.
Zink Metals has colorful gemstone necklaces, earrings, and rings — from bright red garnets to green emeralds — that will brighten up any summer outfit.
For those that don’t want to overshadow a colorful outfit, pearls are also a popular choice this summer. Pearls have always been a staple in many jewelry boxes. But this year, instead of the boring old pearl beaded necklaces, pearls in jewelry pieces with unique silver details like our Biwa Pearl Circle Cluster Necklace are trending hot.
Whether you want to add a pop of color to an outfit or are looking for a compliment to your already vibrant ensemble, Zink Metals has many jewelry pieces to choose from.
Gold will never go out of style and is always a good go-to. What’s trendy this summer is gold textured jewelry and gold mixed with other metals. Gold bracelets and necklaces with unique designs and textures are a great addition to an outfit for a night out. Gold textured jewelry is standing out over the standard polished gold finishes. Large bangle bracelets with hammered or intricate details can be worn alone or layered with other simple bracelets. While gold textured necklaces are sure to make a statement.
Combining different metals is also on-trend this summer. From mixed silver and gold necklace pendants to earrings with contrasting steel and silver pieces, mixed metal jewelry pieces are sure to stand out. The shine and brightness of silver mixed with the industrial look of steel is a signature style in many of Zink Metals' jewelry.
Silver jewelry is another classic that’s re-emerging this summer. We’re seeing more celebrities wear silver on the red carpet lately, but the everyday staple silver pieces are coming back in style. Silver chain bracelets and chunky bangles are great to pair with a blazer or sheer blouse. While long silver necklaces can dress up a simple cami.
We mentioned textures in gold are all the rage, but textured silver jewelry will also be popular this summer. You’ll see a lot of textured silver jewelry popping up this summer too — from large silver rings to hammered silver earrings.
Check out our Broken Silver Collection for textured silver pieces to match any summer style.
Pairing the right piece of jewelry with your outfit is also important if you want to stay on trend this summer. Choosing the right accessories and learning how to mix and match styles can take some practice. Simple chains and stud earrings are great for any outfit. But when you want to make a statement or are dressing for a more formal occasion, choosing the right jewelry can be just as important as choosing the right outfit.
For casual looks, you may consider silver studs paired with a small pendant necklace. Some wear everyday rings most of the year but may skip them as daily accessories in the summer when the hotter temperatures make our fingers swell. But at night, statement rings are great to pair with any ensemble to add a bit of flair.
Summer weddings, parties, and other events present the ideal opportunity to enhance your style with the perfect accessories. As you get dressed up for an important event, the right accessories can really complete your ensemble. Opt for one statement piece or coordinating pieces to ensure a polished and refined look. Matching necklaces and earrings can elevate a simple party dress, adding the finishing touches that truly bring your look to life.

Accessorizing each and every day is one of the best things about getting ready for the day. You undoubtedly have your go-to favorite pieces of jewelry, as well as some treasured jewels you wear on those oh-so-special occasions.
Over time and through wear and tear, jewelry can become dull, tarnished, and lose the luster it had when you first bought it.
It’s important to know that almost any jewelry is prone to tarnishing or diminishing in shine over time when it encounters air, moisture, oil, chemicals, and even your skin; but there are still ways you can care for your jewelry pieces so they stay stunning and last a very long time.
Jewelry is delicate and, because of that, there are unfortunately a lot of ways your jewelry can get damaged from everyday wear—resulting in excessive tarnishing, accidental scratches, loose prongs, dullness, and damage. This can give your delicate pieces the potential for an unnecessarily short lifespan. But that doesn’t mean you have to hide your pieces away in a jewelry box to keep them safe.
Jewelry is meant to be worn. To help you make your jewelry last a lifetime, follow these general tips:
Wetness and moisture, including water, lotion, and creams, are something that should be avoided while wearing many pieces of jewelry. One exception to this rule is permanent jewelry that is not meant to be removed.
Why? Moisture can cause oxidation in steel jewelry, which speeds up the rusting process, so keeping it off your jewelry pieces is important to extending the jewelry's longevity.
If you do get your jewelry wet, try to dry your jewelry as soon as you can—like if you get caught in the rain or accidentally wear your jewelry in the shower.
One of the most beneficial habits you can adopt to properly maintain your jewelry is to put your jewelry on last when getting ready for the day. This way you’ll largely avoid skincare, perfume, hairspray, and other products getting on your jewelry. Also, try to wipe your jewelry after you wear it so you can take off any moisture that may have gotten on it.
Generally speaking, if you’re planning to sweat, steam, or swim, do not wear your jewelry.
For some, it’s common to keep a pair of earrings on in the pool or wear a ring in the shower. But moisture, as well as pool chlorine, can discolor your jewelry in a very short amount of time. Chlorine and other chemicals will also degrade the quality of metals over time. Additionally, wearing jewelry pieces during certain activities provides plenty of opportunity for your favorite items to get lost or broken.
Try to only wear your jewelry during dry activities and to dry places, which means even taking your jewelry off when gardening, cooking, and cleaning.
It may be helpful to keep a small cloth jewelry bag in your gym or swim bag to have a safe place to store your jewelry before workouts. Make the effort to place a ring bowl by the bathroom sink to remind you to remove your jewelry before showering or washing your hands.
Exposure to the most common elements, such as moisture in the air, can wear down your jewelry very quickly, which is why storing your pieces properly is crucial.
Items like necklaces and bracelets can be ruined by throwing them in random drawers. But properly storing your jewelry by hanging it up neatly (not in a bathroom) or keeping it in a jewelry box will help it stay tangle-free, prevent breakage, and extend the life of your jewelry. Plastic bags and containers also help keep out moisture and other harmful elements, which is another storage option. Zink Metals provides a plastic bag with every order, which is meant to be used to store your Zink Metals jewelry.
Try finding a jewelry storage box or organizer that will protect your jewelry from sunlight, air, and moisture. Having separate slots or sections for your jewelry will also prevent your jewelry pieces from scratching each other. You can also add anti-tarnish strips which will absorb the elements in the air that would cause tarnish. And storing your bagged items in a jewelry box or organizer adds an extra layer of protection.
It’s a great habit to consistently pay close attention to how you’re treating your jewelry and maintaining its luster. One of the most common jewelry care questions is how to clean silver jewelry. Getting your pieces cleaned professionally on a regular basis and repaired by a trusted jeweler allows you to preserve its sheen.
Professionally repairing your pieces when they encounter breaks or damages keeps your pieces in viable condition while avoiding the need to prematurely retire your favorite necklaces and bracelets.
Even getting them cleaned professionally on a consistent basis enables a trained jeweler to get their eyes on your jewelry to secure stones and address issues before they become excessive.
Also, when investing in a new piece of jewelry, make sure you understand what the jewelry warranty covers. Repairs and replacements can be expensive. An extended jewelry warranty provides you with coverage to replace or repair any defects or breakdown that comes from wear and tear.
Keeping your jewelry clean is important to ensure your jewelry lasts. Jewelry is a valuable possession that requires proper care and maintenance to retain its beauty and longevity. Cleaning your jewelry regularly is essential to keep it looking its best. Different types of jewelry, such as silver, steel, and gold, require different cleaning methods to ensure that they remain in pristine condition.
Silver is a popular choice for jewelry due to its affordability and beauty. However, over time, silver jewelry can tarnish and lose its luster. To keep your silver jewelry looking its best, it is essential to clean it regularly. Here are some tips for cleaning silver jewelry:
By following these tips, you can keep your silver jewelry looking beautiful for years to come. Remember, prevention and gentle cleaning are the keys to maintaining the original finish and beauty of your silver jewelry.
At Zink Metals, we love using steel for our one-of-a-kind pieces—whether alone or in combination with other metals and gemstones. For steel jewelry, it’s important to not clean or use a polishing cloth on it. In doing so, the steel jewelry will lose its patina. Additionally:

Exposing sterling silver to chlorinated water in a swimming pool is not the best idea as chlorine will likely cause the sterling silver to darken and damage all metals over time.
Use a soft polishing cloth to preserve the shine and cleanliness of silver jewelry. We advise gently rubbing the silver with the cloth, taking care to avoid contact with any stones or steel parts.
While some simple repairs can be done at home, it’s recommended to contact a professional to handle your jewelry repairs. Caring for your pieces properly is the ideal way to avoid the necessity for consistent repairs and ensure that your jewelry stands the test of time.

Jewelry from Zink Metals is different because the pieces are bold and unexpected.
With an MFA (Master’s of Fine Art) from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, whose metals program consists of both metalsmithing (jewelry making) and blacksmithing, the two different influences have made Rebecca really think about how she wants to approach metal, particularly with the integration of the broken silver and the use of steel.
At the heart of the formation of Zink Metals is Rebecca’s mom, who helped her explore metal for the very first time. As one of Rebecca’s Girl Scout leaders growing up, they always did activities at Conner Prairie where there was an opportunity to try blacksmithing and, for Rebecca, the rest is history. She loved it and continued to dabble in blacksmithing since then. Although her focus has turned primarily to jewelry making, she calls herself a ‘metal junkie’ because she truly loves all of it.

]]>Rebecca Zink of Zink Metals welds a permanent jewelry bracelet on a customer at a recent event.
Even though trends come and go, timeless fashion is something that lasts forever. As classic, beautiful pieces of jewelry, permanent jewelry—such as simple and dainty bracelets—is an enduring way to wear jewelry that gives you lasting style and goes with anything, anytime.
If you’re looking for jewelry that’s high-quality, low-maintenance, and looks stunning and minimalistic, it’s time to learn more about the ever-so-popular permanent jewelry craze and start browsing to find a piece of jewelry that you want to live on your wrist for a long time.
Also known as welded or fused jewelry, permanent jewelry differs from traditional jewelry in that it lacks a clasp.
Instead, permanent jewelry is welded together, living on you permanently (or as long as you want it on). Types of permanent jewelry typically include necklaces, anklets, and bracelets that don’t have a typical fastener for easy removal.
By welding or “zapping” the piece together, the intention is to never take it off.
Like tattoos, permanent jewelry often has a personal meaning behind it, with friends or family members often getting matching sets to represent a shared significance.
This is why, in recent years, permanent jewelry has become an increasingly popular way to simplify a routine or signify something everlasting—like marriage, a birth, an anniversary, a friendship, etc. Permanent jewelry is available in multiple metals including but not limited to white gold, solid gold, and sterling silver.
Think of permanent jewelry as the yarn-and-bead friendship bracelets we all used to make, but appreciably upgraded.
How is permanent jewelry applied? With jewelry of this nature, you need a specialized jeweler to complete the process. Once they custom fit the chain you pick for your wrist, neck, or ankle, they zap the chains together to create a permanent loop.
Most jewelry brands use the term “zapping” to refer to the flash of light that occurs when chains are welded together and are typically completed in a few minutes.
When considering the permanent jewelry option, it is best to book an appointment either at a local jeweler or with a jewelry maker who makes and sells permanent jewelry chains so your wrist can be measured. This ensures the chain is the perfect length and won’t slide off easily for the life of the piece of jewelry.
Meaningful pieces of jewelry have served as a physical manifestation of emotions for centuries, which is why modern interpretations often link back to previous eras.
It is because of this nostalgic vibe, combined with the sentimental aspect of permanent jewelry, that provides the greatest indicator that this trend is destined for a long lifespan.
Many people choose permanent jewelry due to its ease while others choose it to signify special occasions. The metals used for permanent jewelry are of great quality, which is appealing to those who don’t want to worry about their everyday jewelry or for others who want a classic piece to last forever.
The simplicity of permanent jewelry allows an individual to seamlessly wear their chosen piece regardless of age or gender, making it an ideal addition to anyone’s collection.
Ultimately, options fully depend on where you purchase your permanent jewelry and what materials they use. If you get your bracelet from a proven artist like Rebecca Zink of Zink Metals or another establishment, they will typically guarantee that your bracelet will stay pristine for as long as you keep it on and treat it properly.
This is why choosing a metal like 14k gold or gold-filled is so popular. You can genuinely live life in your permanent jewelry piece without worrying about it fading and tarnishing unnecessarily. Zink Metals currently offers 14 gold-filled bracelets at events, but 14k solid gold can be available upon request with advanced orders.
Most places that sell permanent jewelry encourage you to use durable, practical metals such as 14k gold filled and sterling silver since they are quality materials that generally don't irritate the skin and lose their shine when cared for properly.
While gold is known to be slightly more expensive than other metals, it also ensures your permanent piece will stand the test of time.
We’re all about permanent jewelry at Zink Metals. Made by Rebecca Zink, our bracelets start at $50 for sterling silver options and 14k gold filled—which is metal that’s gold plated but embodies a thicker plate that’s bonded and holds up to wear and tear—and can stay on for 6 months or more.
Zink Metals sells and applies permanent jewelry at events and can also take advanced orders for to provide the timeliest response to your jewelry requests.
Visit Rebecca at local events or contact her to visit the studio.

Even though permanent jewelry sounds long-lasting, you typically don’t have to keep it on forever. While many people wear a piece for years, they are typically meant to be worn for six or more months at a time. If you have to remove the piece, it’s easy to remove with wire cutters. You can even save the chain and have it re-welded at a later date.
Generally, yes. It only takes one-to-three painless minutes to get a permanent necklace or bracelet, and permanent jewelry tools don’t touch your skin. It’s important to purchase from a reputable jeweler and that the materials used are high quality, such as sterling silver or 14k gold (or 14k gold-filled), to ensure you don’t have any allergic reactions or irritation.
The welding process is similar throughout brands that offer the service. The process itself is completely painless and only takes about a minute.
Yes, it doesn’t have to be worn forever. To remove your permanent bracelet, simply take wire cutters or a pair of scissors and snip it off. If it happens to break off, you can save the chain and get it re-welded at any time.
Usually no, you may have to take it off because of traveling by plane to go through TSA security. However, you can save the chain to rewear at a later time.
Your physician may require you to take your permanent jewelry off for certain medical procedures, such as an MRI. Always ask your doctor or medical technician to be safe. If you need to remove it, you can have it re-welded after your procedure.

Because jewelry adorns the most noticeable, delicate areas of your body — your neckline, ears, fingers, and wrists — it’s absolutely true what they say: It's all in the details.
Choosing the right jewelry and accessorizing well starts with considering the occasion, your skin tone, your style and personality, and even the neckline of your outfit.
Jewelry can bring out your sense of style while leaving a lasting impression. Here’s how you can choose the right pieces of jewelry that are perfectly you.
When paired properly, accessories can elevate, enhance, or accentuate any outfit. You may have a pair of go-to earrings for your favorite LBD or a bracelet you always wear to work.
Regardless of your favorite jewelry options, properly picked jewelry can definitely bring an entire outfit together by complementing both the color and style. However, it’s important to note that the wrong jewelry can accomplish the same by ruining an otherwise beautiful look.
➤ That’s why building a jewelry wardrobe is essential for creating a stylish look each time that fits your style, personality, skin tone, and more. The task doesn’t have to be overly difficult either. When matching your jewelry, the occasion will often determine which pieces you decide to go with.
While your skin tone may not be a part of your outfit, it still plays a part in what you decide to wear.
Consider the fact that you most likely already have colors you don’t like to wear, or you don’t think compliment your complexion. Perhaps reds wash you out, or orange is too harsh for your skin tone. Now apply what you know about clothing colors to your jewelry options as well.
Should you wear silver vs. gold jewelry? What color gemstones work best with your skin tone? Just like the color of your clothes can make your skin tone look good, the jewelry you choose can complement your complexion as well.
This doesn’t mean you can’t wear the other if you happen to have a specific skin tone. It simply means that gold and silver highlight and complement two different complexions.
So, what’s the difference between a silver or gold skin tone? Well, that all depends on the skin’s undertone or the tint beneath your skin which we identified earlier: cool vs. warm.
First, you can take a look at your natural hair color. Often, those with icy blond or light brown hair have a cool skin undertone, whereas dark brown, black, and caramel blond hair is usually associated with a warm undertone. Red hair can either accompany a cool, warm, or even neutral skin tone.
Now, if you choose to dye your hair this won’t affect your skin’s natural undertone and won’t alter what jewelry looks best against your skin.
One additional option is to try shining a light over the veins in your wrist. If these look blue or purple, then you have a cool undertone. If they are yellow or green, then you have a warm undertone. If your veins aren’t visible, then it’s likely you have a neutral undertone and have a few more choices when it comes to jewelry options.
Higher necklines — such as a turtleneck or a collared shirt — can benefit from statement or layered necklaces. Layered necklaces can be better for more professional settings, while a large statement piece is fantastic for going out. Plain tops and solid shirts can always use a necklace — simple or bold — to add definition and create interest.
If you’re wearing a flowy or loose shirt, consider using a necklace to give your body definition and prevent the shirt from overwhelming your look. It can also be a smart idea for these necklaces to have a heavier texture — such as a metalwork design - so they can stand out against the fabric.
Bold earrings have the ability to truly turn an everyday outfit into a luxe statement, while studs are perfect for everyday outfits and more professional settings. Either way you go, earrings in general can instantly bring attention to your face, making them ideal for when you want to catch a bit of extra attention.
In fact, it’s actually a great idea to incorporate statement earrings for both dressing up or simply going out. For maximum effect, try choosing earring colors that contrast with your hair color for the earring to be seen.
Here’s the great thing about rings: they literally go with every outfit. That’s why we have wedding rings and not wedding watches, for instance. And finding the most accurate measurement is best achieved by purchasing your own ring-measurement tool.
They don’t tend to be expensive, and there are many options online. Ring-sizing tools fall into two categories: a thin measuring tape or a keyring lined with a gradient of ring sizes.
Plus, you can keep these on hand to measure when you’re shopping for rings for other people in your family, too. And remember, unlike bracelets, rings look super cute with long-sleeve shirts. That little bit of sparkle draws the eye towards your fingers and hands, especially since you’re mostly covered up otherwise.

]]>Inspired by finely curated metal work and artistry, we are excited to announce a uniquely exquisite exhibition where work from Rebecca Zink, owner of Zink Metals, will grace the gallery floor at Gordy Fine Art in Muncie, Indiana.
This exhibition will honor the legacy of Pat Nelson and highlight the importance of the current Ball State University (BSU) metals program.
Pat Nelson has been a major source for good in Muncie, at Ball State, and to the larger national arts community. Through her practice of creating wonderful works of art and teaching the next generation of metal artistry, Pat has established a long legacy of students who have gone on to launch successful careers as both artists and educators.
This upcoming exhibition will demonstrate her importance as an individual artist as well as her impact as an educator. Pat is the founder of the Ball State metals program — which continues to thrive today and has helped many students launch thriving careers — where many nationally recognized metals and art faculty members now teach.
In addition to honoring the legacy of Pat Nelson, this artist exhibition will also highlight the importance of the current BSU metals program under the guidance of Jessica Calderwood.
The show itself will highlight sculptures, small-scale jewelry, and wall art from a variety of artists and educators. It will comprise work by Pat and Jessica and several of their students who have successful careers in the arts — including Rebecca Zink. All works in the show will be for sale and can also be purchased on the show’s online shop.
Rebecca’s piece in the exhibition is a pendant necklace, titled “Swell”.
When asked about her inspiration behind the jewelry piece, Rebecca shared, “The techniques used to create Swell stemmed from my experiences in graduate school. I attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale, whose program not only incorporates metalsmithing but also blacksmithing. I had recently been pairing steel with my silver pieces and wanted to learn more about blacksmithing. My time in the blacksmithing studio started influencing my jewelry work.”
“I wanted to experiment with forging much heavier pieces of silver like I was forging steel,” she goes on to say. “Steel is generally worked hot at bright orange and red temperatures because the steel is very difficult to form without the heat. Silver is worked cold because the material is much more malleable than steel. However, I was experimenting with round rods of silver at ½ inch diameter, which is significantly heavier than silver that’s used due to the costs. I knew you could forge silver while it was hot but only up to a certain temperature because, otherwise, the material will fail.”
“After one round of forging, I examined the material and found that I had indeed worked it while it was too hot, and the silver had broken apart. I felt that the texture that remained was very interesting and decided to intentionally create more pieces with that texture. Thus, my Broken Silver collection was born.”
Swell is a rhythmic patchwork of that “broken” texture contrasted with a smooth swatch of silver and a stripe of blackened steel.
The idea of the broken silver matched this irreverence because “breaking” one’s expensive material hints of disrespect for the material and also the traditions of jewelry making that go back so many years. My work highlights the idea of value in materials by revealing the beauty in steel and, in this case, texture that is achieved by what is essentially a mistake in the metalsmithing world.
“It is truly an honor to be invited to participate in this exhibition,” remarks Rebecca. “Pat Nelson was truly a gifted instructor, and I still implement ideas and concepts that I learned from her to this day. To be recognized as a notable alumni of the Ball State metals program is a great compliment that truly means the world to me.”
Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, Rebecca Zink earned her BFA in metalsmithing and visual communications from Ball State University where she was taught by Pat Nelson.
She completed her MFA in metalsmithing from Southern Illinois University Carbondale where the program’s blacksmithing department strongly influenced her jewelry work through the application of industrial processes and materials alongside fine metals.
Upon her completion of graduate school in 2017, Rebecca was awarded the 2017-2018 Stutz Artists Association Residency. In 2019 she was selected for 40 Under 40: The Next Generation of American Metal Artists at the Metal Museum in Memphis, Tennessee.
This upcoming exhibition will highlight the vision and creativity that Rebecca has honed while establishing Zink Metals and forging distinctive jewelry designs that have inspired the entire industry.
